Halea Hatten delivered a presentation on Portsmouth City Health Department’s harm reduction initiatives at the University of Kentucky Center of Excellence in Rural Health’s 11th Annual Appalachian Research Day: “Come Sit on the Porch,” on April 8, 2026, in Corbin, Kentucky. Appalachian Research Day is designed to return locally conducted research findings to the communities that participated, ensuring transparency and community benefit. It brings researchers and community members together to “come sit on the porch” and share results with local communities involved in the studies, focusing on Appalachian health disparities and collaborative, community-based solutions.
