Last week, The Dental Foundation of Oregon sent the Tooth Taxi to our Rockwood location to provide our kids with dental services like teeth cleanings and x-rays 🦷

Thanks to this partnership our kids get to walk away with sparkling clean teeth and learn more about how to care for their teeth as they get older! 🩵

Thanks to a generous donation from Walmart we reached our fundraising goal for this year's School Supply Drive!

We also received a shipment of donated backpacks from Genentech to make sure each one of our kids has something to transport their school supplies in.

Thanks to all who contributed and supported this year's FriendsPDX School Supply Drive. We are so grateful for our community and want wait to see what's in store for our kids for this school year! 🩵

Only ONE more week for our School Supply Drive!! 📚 Thanks to your support, we've raised more than $10k of our $15k goal to support all 390 kids!

From our Associate Director for School Success, Estefenia Perez:

"We’re just $5,000 away from reaching our $15,000 goal! That final stretch represents 100 more young people who can walk into the school year prepared, confident, and excited to learn. Help us close the gap and make sure every one of our 390 youth gets the opportunity to start the year strong."

It's that time of year, and we are sending off our FriendsPDX graduates into their next chapter. 🩵

One of our graduates, Karla, is heading to Loyola University Chicago on the Jordan Brand Wings Scholarship to major in political science on a pre-law track.

Reflecting on their time together, Karla's mentor, Janeyry said: "It's been such a treat, honestly, being called a mentor. As much as she says she's learned from me, I've learned so much from her."

When asked to describe her experience at FriendPDX in one word, Karla said, "I think I would definitely say adventurous. Not just adventurous outdoors, but adventurous in myself — in growing. I've grown so much."

Big thank you to Miller Nash LLP for hosting us at their Lunch and Learn this month, where we shared about the impact of professional mentoring for Portland youth! 🩵

We are so grateful to have Mitchell Diesko from Miller Nash on our Ambassador Board to help spread the word about FriendsPDX and partner on our fundraising efforts.

At Friends of the Children - Portland, we know that peer connection is critical for well-being — especially with the rise of technology and reports of increased loneliness and isolation among children. 🩵

That's why we are intentional about creating a space for kids to connect not only with trusted adults, but with other kids who have similar life experiences.

We organize group outings like hikes, beach days, and other excursions; we run summer group programming to help keep kids brains active while school is out; and we have peer support groups where kids can talk about what's going on in their lives in a supportive environment.

One of our sweetest community partnerships is with For Goodness Cakes. 🎂

For Goodness Cakes coordinates custom birthday cakes for our youth for free! FriendsPDX mentors ask kids what they likez, put in an order, and volunteers with For Goodness Cakes make and decorate the cakes.

Our youth get to either have a celebration at our Rockwood building, or take the cake home to celebrate with their family.

Thank you For Goodness Cakes for helping bring a smile to our kids faces on their special day!🩵

Over the next few weeks we are so grateful to be partnering with Sport Clips to provide FREE haircuts for our mentors and youth as they get ready to head back to school! ⭐
