A poem’s form is a poem’s body, the means by which it enacts its emotions and ideas.

In this class led by , we’ll consider the what, why, who, and how of form: what form is, why we might choose to write in an inherited form, alter an inherited form, or write in a nonce (made-up) form, and how we might go about doing so. We’ll read examples of different forms from a wide range of historical and contemporary poets, including contemporary and historical Jewish poets.

You’ll receive guidance and creative prompts so you can try writing in a form and have the opportunity to share your work in a supportive environment.

No previous experience in writing poetry is required - all are welcome.

In the newest release episode of The A/L Podcast, sits down with multi-instrumentalist David Rossman () - guitarist, violinist, and klezmer devotee - to explore his winding path into klezmer music. His journey took him through John Zorn’s avant-garde Jewish compositions, a deep dive into the Zohar and Jewish mysticism, and, eventually, a longing for community that brought him back to tradition.
