January is only five months away. Changes are coming to HIP, including new work requirements for some members.

Don't wait until the last minute. Take time now to learn about the changes and see if you may qualify for an exemption.
We have a flyer explaining the changes. Just stop by and pick one up!💚

HIP Work Requirements are coming. Starting Jan. 1, 2027, If you’re 19–64 and not exempt, complete 80 hours/month through work, classes, training, or service. Learn more at myfssa.in.gov.

📣 THE BIG IDEA IS AT REDKEY ELEMENTARY! 🍎🥕🏫

The Jay County Food & Security Task Force is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to bring The Big Idea to Redkey Elementary School Families!

The Big Idea is about much more than providing food. It brings schools, families, and community resources together to help children and families thrive.

📅 FIRST TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH (except December)
⏰ 3:00–5:00 p.m.
📍 Redkey Elementary School

🛒 FOOD FOR FAMILIES
At a typical Big Idea event, families receive approximately 30–35 pounds of food, which may include fresh produce, shelf-stable foods, and frozen items. The program encourages a choice-style shopping experience whenever possible, giving families greater choice in the foods they bring home.

🧴 HOUSEHOLD & HYGIENE ESSENTIALS
Big Idea schools may also provide everyday necessities such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry and cleaning products, period supplies, and household paper products.

🤝 CONNECTION TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES
The Big Idea helps connect families with resources related to healthcare, employment, college assistance, family programs, and other community services—bringing resources directly to families and helping reduce barriers such as transportation and time.

❤️ BUILDING STRONGER FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES
Most importantly, The Big Idea is designed to strengthen relationships among families, schools, and the community. When we work together to support children and their families, we help create opportunities for everyone to thrive.

Awareness is important, but preventing hazing takes more than awareness.
Everyone deserves to feel like they belong without being hurt, scared, or embarassed.
Indiana law makes hazing illegal. Let's create safe groups, healthy traditions, and communities where everyone feels welcome.
Belonging should never come with harm.

If you or someone you know has experienced hazing, pleas contact the National Anti-Hazing Hotline: Call 1-888-NOT-HAZE (1-888-668-4293) for a 24/7 anonymous reporting line that forwards details to campus administrations or national organization headquarters.

Awareness matters—but awareness alone is not hazing prevention.

National Hazing Prevention Week (Sept. 21-25) is an important opportunity to educate, engage, and start conversations. But true prevention requires much more than a week of activities or simply making people aware that hazing is harmful.

Prevention requires sustained, intentional action—examining the conditions that allow hazing to develop, building healthier traditions, strengthening belonging, empowering intervention and reporting, developing effective leaders, and creating cultures where hazing is less likely to occur in the first place.

Awareness is part of prevention. It cannot be the entirety of our prevention efforts.

Happy Monday! As your local Family Resource Center, we want to share helpful resources with our community.🏠 We would like to introduce you to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI offers information, education, and support for people living with mental illness and their families. We hope the information we share may help you or someone you know.

Sometimes, simply learning more can help us understand mental illness better and feel less afraid of it.💚

The first few weeks of the school year are a time of adjustment. As students settle into new routines, educators have an opportunity to create classrooms where every student feels welcomed, supported and ready to learn.

Whether you're helping students navigate friendships, manage stress or build healthy coping skills, you don't have to do it alone.
