Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation: a passion for sharing art. Jordan D. Mr. Schnitzer began buying contemporary prints and multiples in earnest in 1988.

Schnitzer purchased his first work of art when he was fourteen years old from his mother, Arlene Schnitzer, who started the first contemporary art gallery in Portland, Oregon, the Fountain Gallery. It was through her and her gallery that his initial acquisition of one painting turned into a lifelong pursuit of being an art patron. As the collection grew, so did inquiries from museums wishing to bo

rrow prints for exhibitions. The public nature of these initial exhibitions sparked a passion for sharing the collection that is the basis of the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation exhibition and lending program. Works are available to qualified institutions from two collections; the Jordan D. Schnitzer Collection and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Collection, whose combined holdings exceed 10,000 prints and multiples by artists. Exhibitions organized by the Foundation that have travelled nationally are listed under Past Exhibitions. The Foundation has organized over eighty exhibitions at more than fifty museums. While the collections consist primarily of prints and multiples, Mr. Schnitzer also collects sculpture, painting, glass, and continues his family’s legacy of acquiring works by local artists in the Pacific Northwest.

Feartured in Whitewall: David Hockney in Portland — A Survey That Reframes How We See

“Spanning more than six decades and over 250 works, the Portland Art Museum’s landmark survey of David Hockney reframes the artist not as a monumental figure of modern art, but as an endlessly curious experimenter in perception, technology, and the intimate act of seeing.”

The exhibition “quietly reframes how Hockney’s work can be encountered today: not as a retrospective spectacle, but as a lived, unfolding conversation between time, technology, and perception.”

Portland offers “a sustained immersion into the artist’s process, curiosity, and restless experimentation with how we see.” It “asks viewers to slow down, to follow the artist’s thinking across time, medium, and technological shifts,” and “restores a sense of play, vulnerability, and investigation to an artist too often framed only through his greatest hits.”

“From time immemorial, we’re facing the issue of objectifying women versus honoring them. You couldn’t pick two better artists to deal with that tension and help us think through our values.” said Jordan Schnitzer.

The captivating exhibition explores how two visionary artists — from different generations and perspectives — confront the long‑standing fascination with the female body in art.

featured Palm Springs Art Museum’s: The Female Form: Tom Wesselmann & Mickalene Thomas from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation — a bold dialogue between 1960s pop sensuality and 21st century reinvention of beauty, visibility, and agency.

Wesselmann’s iconic nudes shimmer with glamour and contradiction, while Thomas reframes the gaze with dazzling collages, rhinestones, and unapologetic power. Together, their works challenge how the female body has been seen, celebrated and redefined across generations.

David Hockney: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation

This is the final weekend to see the largest survey of David Hockney’s prints over his 60-year career—and the first time his work has been shown in Grand Rapids. The exhibition features over 160 works, including drawings, collages, photographic compositions, and iPad sketches.

Organized from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation in Portland, Oregon, the show highlights Hockney’s iconic subjects:

-Southern California swimming pools
-Portraits of friends and family
-Expansive landscapes and studio interiors
-Theatrical set designs

Hockney blends traditional techniques with everyday technology—Xerox machines, Polaroids, iPhones, and iPads—to push the boundaries of printmaking.

Jordan Schnitzer: “To many, David Hockney is the most important artist working today... Whether it was Xerox prints, Polaroid photographs, or on the iPad, Hockney’s eye and hand create some of the most intriguing and beautiful art ever made.”
