🦁 Spotlight on Dr. J.P. Lowery's work with OLSHF's Low Vision Clinic
Since 1986, the Oregon Lions Statewide Low Vision Clinic (LVC) has been a vital resource for children with severe visual impairments, helping them thrive at home and in school. Each year, the clinic reaches every corner of Oregon—from Coos Bay to Ontario, Portland to Ashland—making sure no child is left behind.
At the heart of this mission is Dr. J.P. Lowery, Pediatric Optometrist from Pacific University. Dr. Lowery travels thousands of miles each year to provide comprehensive low vision exams, working closely with students, families, and teachers to tailor strategies and deliver essential tools that boost learning and independence.
This last year alone, thanks to Dr. Lowery and our dedicated partners, the LVC achieved:
✅ 116 children served
✅ 160 clinic hours
✅ 26 clinic days
✅ 3295 miles traveled
✅ 14 Oregon locations
✅ 20 low vision aids dispensed
We’re proud to continue offering free low vision evaluations and devices—like monocular telescopes and magnifiers—so Oregon’s kids can see their world more clearly and embrace their full potential.
