Community Doulas

Community Doulas Community Doulas provides experienced, non-judgemental doula support to low-income families in Maine.

Community Doulas provides free doula services to low-income families in Maine by connecting doulas with families in need. A doula provides physical, emotional, and educational support to their client. Doulas work with a family prenatally to prepare for the birth, stay for the duration of the labour (whether at home, in a birthing center, or at a hospital) and assist with the postpartum adjustment.

Doulas encourage, normalize, coach and act as a living resource guide. They bear witness to the amazing transformation that birth is.

Once again this year, Community Doulas will have a booth at the Common Ground Country Fair. As part of our vendor profile, we were asked to answer the question: how has your participation at the fair contributed to "common ground."

Here, in part, is our reply:

Birth is one of the most universal human experiences — yet access to compassionate support during that time is far from equal. That's why we show up to the Common Ground Fair every year. Our booth brings together expectant parents and curious newcomers, families with resources and families without. When a first-generation immigrant mom and a fourth-generation Mainer discover they share the same hopes about childbirth — that's common ground. We believe birth work is community work!

See you at the Fair!!

🌈 Happy Pride Month from all of us at Community Doulas! We celebrate and honor the LGBTQIA+ community, recognizing the unique journeys and experiences of q***r families, parents, and birth workers. Our mission is to provide inclusive and affirming support for everyone—because every family deserves compassionate care.

This month (and every month), we stand with LGBTQIA+ doulas and families, working to create safe spaces and empower all identities. Love makes a family, and we’re proud to be part of your story.

🌱 Community Doulas is growing — and we need YOU!
We're reaching more families than ever, expanding our doula training programs, and doing some of our best work yet. To keep that momentum going, we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our fundraising efforts and community events.

No birth experience needed — just a heart for health equity and a willingness to pitch in. This is a flexible, as-needed role, not a ongoing weekly commitment, so it fits into real life.

If you believe every family deserves compassionate support during birth and the postpartum period — and you want to help make that possible — we want to hear from you.
