Healing can start with something as simple as tending a plant 🌱

In partnership with Raíces de Bienestar, we joined Charla: La salud mental y la jardinería in Washington County to explore the connection between mental health and gardening 💚

Community members came together to reflect, share, and get their hands in the soil. Each participant received a container garden to take home, creating a small, living space for care, grounding, and growth 🌿

Because sometimes support looks like conversation. And sometimes it looks like something you can water, nurture, and return to day after day 🌼

Care does not have to be expensive, complicated, or hidden behind a label 🌿

Sometimes it looks like a room full of people sharing what they already know ✨

In partnership with Adelante Mujeres and Metro, we co-hosted Care for your Body, the Earth, and your Mind, a community workshop rooted in environmental justice, cultural knowledge, and everyday practice 💚

Participants from Adelante Mujeres’ Environmental Justice and Leadership Program, Home Gardens families in Washington County, and community members came together to explore safer, more sustainable personal care. Not just learning, but teaching. Sharing recipes, swapping stories, and building on generations of lived experience 🌱

Together, we used Metro’s personal care kits to create DIY skin scrubs and reimagined what self-care can look like when it is rooted in accessibility, culture, and care for the earth 🌎

There’s something powerful about young people stepping into leadership and shaping the future with their own hands 🌱

Through Portland Public Schools’ Climate Friendly Public Schools Program, student teams are designing and leading climate action projects rooted in their own communities. Not in theory. In practice. In soil.

And when the community shows up alongside them, that’s where the magic deepens.

We were honored to host a field trip in partnership with , welcoming 25 high school students for a day of hands-on learning at their CROPS farm. Together, we explored farm operations, shared stories from the field, and planted seedlings that will carry this work forward long after the day ended.

Because climate action is not a solo act. It’s collective, it’s local, and it grows stronger when we invest in the leadership already taking root in our communities.

This work is made possible through a Portland Clean Energy Fund–funded project, supporting students as they turn ideas into action.

Early plant distribution day 🌱

For the first time, we’re hosting two distribution days thanks to the abundance coming out of our greenhouse. More plants moving into the community means more fresh food on people’s plates, more skills in people’s hands, and more resilience taking root where it matters most.

It’s a good day to grow something together 💚

A simple act with a ripple effect 🌱

Thanks to a generous seed donation from Adaptive Seeds, more communities are getting their hands in the soil and growing food that nourishes both body and culture. These seeds are more than just starts, they are a step toward self-sufficiency, resilience, and the kind of food system we all deserve.

Grateful to be in this work together 💚

Why is junk food cheaper than fresh produce?

It’s not an accident. It’s policy.

For decades, government subsidies have poured billions into commodity crops like corn, wheat, and soy, leading to an abundance of cheap processed food. Meanwhile, small-scale farmers and community food initiatives are left to fend for themselves.

The result?
🍔 A fast-food burger costs less than a salad.
🌾 Family farmers can’t compete with agribusiness giants.
🏙 Neighborhoods become food deserts—not by chance, but by design.

But what if food policies were written for people, not profit? What if support went to urban farms, local food co-ops, and community gardens instead of industrial feedlots?

What changes would YOU want to see? Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let’s start a conversation about the food system we actually want.
