The first guest is Peter-Lucas Jones (Māori), CEO of Te Hiku Media (https://tehiku.nz/). Te Hiku Media is a charitable media organisation, collectively belonging to the Far North iwi of Ngāti Kuri, Te Aupouri, Ngai Takoto, Te Rārawa and Ngāti Kahu. The station is an iwi communications hub for iwi radio, online TV and media services. Māori language revitalisation is a core focus of Te Hiku Media, as is archiving and training.

Your host: Yulha Lhawa is a Language Revitalization Mentor and the 2026 ELP Technology Fellow, in partnership with Stanford SILICON. She is a computational linguist and native speaker of Khroskyabs from the Tibetan Plateau. She works to explore ways technology can support community-led language revitalization efforts.

Join us on June 15 for the next "Stories from the Heart," and hear real-life stories of language revitalization around the world! This month's speaker will be René Oswaldo González Pizarro (Ayuuk). He will share about his work to create stickers in the Ayuuk language, creating visibility, pride, and excitement among speakers of different dialects of Ayuuk. 🎨

"Stories from the Heart: Community Language Projects from Ready to Revitalize" is a monthly series of informal talks by grassroots language champions worldwide. Each month, alumni of ELP's Ready to Revitalize program will be sharing about the programs they’ve developed to strengthen their languages. ⁠

Join us for Part 2 of our Indigenous Language Symposium: Developing Community Language Revitalization Plans. This gathering will focus on strengthening strategies, collaboration, and action steps to support long-term Indigenous language restoration and thriving knowledge systems.

Meet ELP's summer 2026 intern, Jackie Dormer!

Jackie Dormer was born and raised in Bird’s Hill, MB, Canada and currently resides in Winnipeg, MB (Treaty 1 Territory) with her two cats, Cricket and Boo. She is a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation, and a learner of Southern Michif. She holds undergraduate degrees in Linguistics and Native Studies and is currently completing a Master’s in Development Practice in Indigenous Development at the University of Winnipeg. Her Master’s research is focused on the creation of a culturally responsive Southern Michif resource.

We are excited to work with Jackie this summer on projects to support language planning, revitalization, and sustainability. Please give her a warm welcome! 🎉
