A successful open mic and art gallery! We at Concerned Artists of the Philippines Portland have just finished off our 19 Days of Action for the Negros 19 on May 24 with an open mic and art gallery night. We raised $510 to help us continue the work of the Negros 19 and celebrating CAPP in our 1 year anniversary of launching! Through musical performances and poetry we educated and agitated the people on the fight and resistance of the Filipino people and the Negros 19 against the US-backed Philippine government. We also held the first live performance of our new original song “Palayasin” - look out soon for the official released! While this open mic and art gallery has passed, the fight and days of action have not. Stay tuned for more CAPP activities going into Fleet Week!

Tula ng Bayan! Join Concerned Artists of Philippines Portland for our Poetry Night as part of our 19 Days of Action. We gather to share words of solidarity, inspiration, hope, and celebration of our martyrs. Together, through art and poetry, we shine a light through the lies and violence of the US-Marcos regime!

We will be having featured poets performing pieces about the Philippines, the Negros 19, and the fight against disinformation, fascism, and imperialism. We will be learning about the situation in the Philippines and using that education to write poetry together. Then will also be an opec mic portion where you can sign-up to share your poetry and art about these topics!

📍Where: 1537 SE Morrison St, Portland, OR 97214
⏱️When: Thursday, May 21 at 7-9pm, Doors open at 6:30pm

Join us for our last 19 Days of Action, CAPP will be having an open mic and art gallery.
We gather to show that art is not neutral and that our art must urge the people to fight back and defend the truth about the Negros 19! Through songs and art about truth and justice, we expose the lies that the Philippine government continues to cover up!

Here is a sneak peek of a piece by Abby Pasion that will be featured at our art gallery🎨

Artist’s Statement:
This piece aims to capture a still moment in the life of the average Filipino farm worker, such as those on the island of Negros, where sugarcane haciendas sprawl across its rich lands.

A moment like this is what I imagine the Negros 19 had immersed themselves in — resiliency, determination, and community — before a moment like this would be stained by their abrupt and unjust killings by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

To live in a moment like this — to breathe in the everyday livelihood of the worker should not be a crime.

To honor the grind and expose the realities of the everyday conditions of mga bayan should not be a crime.

Yet a moment like this is what 19 lives were lost over.

So I hope this art piece will serve as a reminder of who we continue to fight for.

For our fallen kasamas.
For the sovereignty mga bayan.
For another sunrise on a truly liberated Philippines.

For a moment like this.
