FAR-West Week!

This is a big week for Members and Friends of PFS, and music lovers in general.

The FAR West Annual Conference is coming up October 15-18, Thursday through Sunday.

PFS is being honored, and will be prominent at the conference - and there will be great music (and great musicians!) everywhere. Come if you can. It’s going to be a hoot.

The Theme for October 17: Leaves Leave Leaf

One time when I was looking at a tree and all the leaves had fallen off in the fall, and only one leaf was left dangling from the limb, I noticed the connection between the three words. That’s all it is. I just noticed a random connection! And I found it a little bit interesting…

With this theme, a person could sing a song about leaving a place or person, about being left behind, about leaves on trees, about leaves off trees, about leaves leaving other leaves - and if anybody can find a song connecting all three, more power to ‘em! Maybe someone can write one! Just another creative idea from the Universe!

Friday October 23 to Sunday October 25 will be FallSong, PFS's annual on-line music weekend.

FallSong is made up of song-circles, mini-concerts, workshops and occasional special events - all offered by participant volunteers. Everyone is welcome, and there will be people from a half-dozen countries and a dozen states, with a big group from the US West Coast. People of all levels and people who like all genres can have a good time.

Because FallSong is on line and because it is completely put on by volunteers, FallSong is free. Registration is quick and easy. Go to PortlandFolkMusic.org/FallSong

The Theme for Saturday September 19 Virtual Song Circle: Ghoulies and Ghosties and Long-Leggedy Beasties.

Many of our folk tales and songs address our fear of what may be lurking in the dark, unexplained noises, death and the dead. As the nights get longer (and darker), let's bring on the songs and tales that are best shared by the autumn bonfires or by candlelight to make the listeners shiver and huddle a little closer to their friends and family!
