The Oregon Senate unanimously passed the lung cancer resolution, hurrah! Lorren from Caring Ambassadors, Barb, Jessica and her sons, Nate and Pete, were at the Capitol to watch the vote.

Today the Oregon House of Representatives unanimously passed the House concurrent Resolution 17 and is now being sent to the Senate floor. Hurrah, and many thanks to our Oregon Representatives!!!

Dr. Paul Schipper of OHSU, Lorren Sandt of Caring Ambassadors, and Barb Ferguson, a lung cancer patient, gave testimony to the Health Committee of the Oregon House of Representatives today to support passage of HRC 17. This is a resolution that supports advocacy work for lung cancer awareness.

In 1971, the National Cancer Act declared the War on Cancer. At that time, the overall 5-year survival for lung cancer was 13.6%. While the survival rates for other cancers have increased dramatically in the intervening years up to 2011, the survival rate for lung cancer has remained relatively the same. It's time to make our voices heard and have lung cancer be recognized as a public health priority.
