The air has turned crisp; we anticipate final harvests and fairs. Did you know rice can grow in Maine? A variety of techniques and viable species, including many from Japan, have been tested in Maine. Another crop Maine has in common with Aomori, Japan. In Aomori, rice is grown on the Tsugaru Plain. Maine rice seed is being grown at Ararat Farm in Lincolnville: https://www.araratfarmslincolnville.com/maine-rice-project. Hashi-Maine 2026 is now on view at the Greely Center for the Arts, In Cumberland, Maine, until October 5th, 2026. Student-created prints by grades 2-6 in Aomori, Grade 6 in Portland, grades 3-5 in MSAD #51, and grades 5-7 in Brewer.
