Enjoy a yuzuyu, or yuzu citron-steeped bath, on the winter solstice, known as Toji in Japan. The yuzu's juice and its bright, sunny color are traditionally thought to have warming properties that help bathers ward off illness and set their minds toward the warmer months. Onsen or bathing in Japan is preferred at night; the soothing citrus scent and lingering warmth of the bath quickly lull solstice revelers to sleep.
