ACE Mentor Program of Oregon ACE inspires high school students to pursue careers in Architecture, Construction, and Engineering.

Our mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction. The ACE Mentor Program is a national, proven after-school program that inspires high school students to pursue careers in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) fields. ACE also secures business donations for college scholarships. The ACE Oregon affiliate began in 2006, and first awarded college scholarships in 2007. This Portland-based chapter has grown significantly and now relies on 100 volunteer mentors to serve about 150 students a year from high schools across the metropolitan area. Since 2007, ACE Oregon has awarded $312,000 in college scholarships to students who plan to major in an ACE-related field. ACE gives students the chance to connect directly with Portland-area professionals in ACE fields. During 12 mentoring sessions held at employer firms between January and May, students:

• Work in teams with mentors and students from other schools on a building design project.

• Visit leading firms, explore different career fields and practice skills such as communication, networking and teamwork.

• "Pitch" their projects to educators, family and professionals at the program finale.

Students in ACE learn all about sustainable design and climate-related careers as they work on their projects.🌎 ✨ We love to see high school students gaining knowledge in areas such as decarbonization, energy efficiency, and transit-centered design! ACE is supported in part by a grant from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF), a program of the City of Portland. 🔋

🎉 That’s a wrap on the 2026 ACE Mentor Program of Oregon! Last week, our students truly ACE’d their final presentations, and we were blown away by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and vision behind their designs.

Throughout the program, students collaborated with industry mentors to reimagine a portion of the Albina/Eliot Reparative Development Project, creating innovative designs rooted in community and equity.

At the final presentations, teams presented their work to family, friends, mentors, and members of the ACE Board, demonstrating not only their technical skills, but also their passion for shaping a better future.

22 seniors in the program also received scholarships (totaling $134,000) for their post-grad education journeys pursuing careers in the design-build industry.

👏 Congratulations to all of our incredible students, and thank you to the mentors and volunteers who made this experience possible.

The ACE 2026 Mentor Program is in full swing! 🏗️

With finals approaching, it’s a great time to reflect on the fun journey we’ve had so far. Check out these photos from sessions 1 and 2 at the Lloyd Center back in January! Students met their teams for the first time, practiced communication and teamwork through the cup challenge, and were introduced to this year's new project: the Albina/Elliot Reparative Development Project.

Then, we kicked off March with Midterms where all teams shared their progress on their projects and collaborate with other teams on their sites.📝 Looking forward to their continued work and the finished projects at the final presentations!
