Born from friendship, a shared love of beer, and a deep appreciation for the Midcoast community, Stone Alley Brewing Company traces its roots to a group of six friends who first imagined bringing a brewery to downtown Rockland. As the project evolved, Todd, Tara, Shawn, and Andrea carried that vision forward, turning years of homebrewing, and the right space at the right time—into the opportunity to open the brewery in their hometown in November 2024.
Their goal was never just to make great beer— it was to create a place where people gather. Though still one of Maine's newest breweries, that sense of community is evident the moment you walk through the door. The owners are behind the bar, regulars greet newcomers, conversations flow as easily as the taps, and what started as a place to grab a pint has quickly become a true neighborhood gathering place.
That relationship goes both ways. As the community has embraced Stone Alley, the brewery has made giving back part of its mission. Stone Alley has already supported the local food pantry through fundraising efforts and is developing a rotating Community Tap beer that will benefit local nonprofits. The owners still work full-time jobs outside the brewery, making Stone Alley a true labor of love powered by teamwork.
The midcoast brewery works on a two-barrel system, a small batch size that has its challenges, especially as demand has quickly outpaced expectations, but it also gives Todd, the brewery's primary brewer, the freedom to keep the tap list fresh and approachable.
As Stone Alley enters its second year, they're excited to launch 32-ounce crowlers, continue giving back, and keep growing alongside the community that embraced them from day one. After all, the best neighborhood breweries aren't built one batch at a time— they're built one conversation, one regular, and one new friend at a time.
If you're visiting Rockland for this week's Maine Lobster Festival, stop in and say hello. Stone Alley will be extending its taproom hours all week to welcome festival-goers!
