Nestled in downtown Ellsworth, Fogtown Brewing Company has spent the last nine years becoming much more than a brewery.

Founded in 2017, Fogtown has grown into a true community gathering place where locals and visitors alike can enjoy great beer, cider, wood-fired pizza, live music, and good conversation. That neighborhood feel is evident the moment you walk into Fogtown. Kids play, dogs lounge beside their people in the beer garden, local musicians perform on the outdoor stage, and families gather for celebrations. At the gateway to Acadia, that community-minded spirit has made Fogtown a meeting place for everything from fundraisers and community events to Ellsworth's first Pride celebration, cementing its role as a true "third place" for the Downeast community.

Owner Jon Stein says the brewery's evolution has been guided by what the community needed. "Every year we've added something different. The community kept showing us what they wanted the space to be." Over the years, that has meant adding a beer garden, an outdoor stage, and most recently, a dedicated kids' space.

Fogtown's beverage program is equally rooted in place. Alongside flagship beers like Foglight, a pilsner brewed with 100% Maine-grown grain, Night Nurse Stout, and Maine Coast IPA, the brewery produces seasonal favorites featuring local ingredients, from spruce tip ales to oyster saisons inspired by the woods and waters of Downeast Maine. For more than five years, Fogtown has also cultivated a cider program that celebrates Maine's rich apple heritage through fruit sourced from local orchards, wild apple trees, and foraged varieties.

Today, Fogtown continues to focus on what has always mattered most: supporting local farmers, growers, fishermen, and community organizations while creating a welcoming space for everyone who walks through the door. Whether you're a local, a seasonal regular, or just passing through on your first visit to Acadia, Fogtown Brewing offers a uniquely Downeast experience worth seeking out.

For nearly two decades, Portland Greendrinks has been bringing Mainers together around sustainability, community, local impact, and local beer. What began as a simple gathering has grown into a vibrant network of people and organizations committed to mutual support and making Maine a better place to live.

Their work embodies so many of the values we hold dear in the brewing community: camaraderie, accountability, and a shared commitment to quality— not only in what we create, but in how we show up for one another. Through their monthly events and nonprofit partnerships, Portland Greendrinks has helped connect thousands of people, elevate important cultural causes, and provide meaningful visibility to small but essential organizations across Maine.

We are incredibly grateful for their continued collaboration with the Maine Brewers' Guild and the craft brewing industry. Their work creates opportunities for us to share our mission, for our breweries to connect with new audiences, and supports our continued advocacy for the more than 130 independent breweries that make Maine one of the country's truly great beer destinations.

Tonight, we're honored to join Portland Greendrinks at Live at Madrid's alongside eight outstanding Maine breweries, local food, live music, and a community that believes in the power of coming together. If you're looking for a reminder of what makes Maine special, come raise a glass with us. 🍻

Tickets available online via https://portlandgreendrinks.com/events/ and at the door.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗲.

The national Brewers Association has released its latest State Craft Beer Statistics, and Maine continues to rank among the nation's leaders in craft brewing:

🍺 157 craft breweries statewide (ranked 21st nationally)
🍺 $736 million in economic impact
🍺 Ranks 2nd in breweries per capita
🍺 Ranks 3rd in economic impact per capita
🍺 338,405 barrels produced

Behind these numbers are the independent breweries that create jobs, support local agriculture and Maine tourism, strengthen downtowns, and contribute to the unique character of communities across the Pine Tree State.

As breweries continue to navigate a changing economic landscape, one thing remains clear: locally made beer is an essential part of Maine's economy, culture, and identity. Thanks in no small part to the unyielding support of residents and visitors, Maine craft breweries continue to demonstrate the value of brewing local, drinking local, and supporting local business.

Explore state-by-state craft beer statistics, economic impact data, and production trends from the Brewers Association at brewersassociation.org.

Hidden in plain sight along the Kennebec waterfront and neighboring the beautiful Gardiner Public Library, Bateau Brewery has quietly spent the last seven years becoming a destination for craft beer lovers seeking great beer, gorgeous riverside views, and laid back Maine hospitality.

Overlooking the river park from historic Water Street, Bateau Brewing keeps its tap list wide-ranging, pouring everything from Belgian-influenced wheat beers and crisp German lagers to juicy New England IPAs and beyond. Tucked into the 19th century mercantile buildings of Dingley Block, the brewery blends the timeless character of Maine’s old brick downtowns with a warm and welcoming atmosphere built for gathering, games, and sunny afternoons spent outside with tall frosty pints.

Visitors can enjoy Adirondack chairs overlooking the river, picnic tables in the beer garden and a rotating lineup of food trucks serving up comfortingly tasty pub fare throughout the season. Inside, Bateau has recently expanded its cozy taproom experience with a game room featuring vintage pinball and arcade games. Whether you’re stopping through the capital region or planning a weekend beer trail adventure, Bateau Brewing offers a thoughtful mix of scenery, community, approachable craft beer, and gluten-free seltzers in the heart of one of Maine’s best-kept small town gems.

For the unofficial start of summer, there may not have been a better place to be than MayFest with Naiad Country Brewery at Barncastle. Between the incredible beer (including a new Goodfire Brewing Co. x Naiad spring pale ale and a guest appearance from Bangor Beer Co.), local artisans, great food, and the unmistakable energy of a Downeast Maine community shaking off winter, the whole event felt like a celebration of the season ahead.

And with summer only just beginning, the salt air, swaying pines, winding roads, and rocky shoreline of Downeast are calling. In this neck of the woods, there’s an exciting new chapter unfolding for Naiad, too: owner and brewer Spencer Janney recently announced the acquisition of Mainescape Garden Center in Blue Hill— a thoughtful expansion that will allow one of Maine’s most exciting young breweries to grow while staying rooted in the agricultural philosophy and sense of place that have made Naiad such a singular destination in Maine beer.

Whether you’re making your first trip up the coast this season or returning to one of your favorite corners of the state, make time for a stop at Naiad Country Brewery in Orland to catch up on expansion plans and to try some of the amazing ales and lagers that has both brewers and beer lovers alike heading north. 🍻

Big doings today in Brunswick as Moderation Brewing officially opens the doors to their long-awaited new home today 🍻

Housed in Brunswick’s historic former Central Fire Station, Moderation Brewing’s new space is a long awaited brewery expansion— and a thoughtful reinvestment in people, history, and the idea of the “third place”, a gathering point that's not home, not work, but the space that bring us together. Since opening in 2018, founders Mattie Daughtry and Philip Welsh have built Moderation into a community hub for trivia nights, fundraisers, first dates, Pride celebrations, board meetings, improv practice, and countless everyday moments that make a community feel connected.

Now entering their next chapter, Moderation 2.0 preserves and reactivates one of Brunswick’s most recognizable historic buildings while creating room to grow both their brewing program and their community impact. The new taproom will feature 24 taps, a bigger 7 BBL brew house, the relaunch of their barrel-aging program, expanded indoor gathering space, and plans for a packed summer season including food trucks, live music, trivia on Tuesdays, a bocce court, and a Wednesday night farmers market. A community kitchen is also planned to open this fall, creating opportunities for chefs, food vendors, pop-ups, classes, and collaborations with surrounding businesses.

Outdoors, the new beer garden and park-like setting offer even more room to gather, connect, and enjoy downtown Brunswick. The project also preserves public parking while adding bike-friendly infrastructure and public space improvements designed to support the broader community.

Open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for soft opening weekend, with expanded hours arriving in June, Moderation Brewing continues to embody the belief that breweries can be more than places to drink local beer made from local ingredients: they are essential social anchors for creativity, hospitality, and community life.
