Portland honors the fallen by Jeffrey Blayman.
The chill of the rain couldn’t stop the participants and spectators from lining the streets for Portland’s Memorial Day parade. The members of Warren lodge 51 marched proudly alongside their neighbors having existed in town since the early 1800s. Many other organizations braved the inclement weather as well like the members of the Shriners Motor Patrol with their fantastic miniature cars, the Boy Scouts of America, Portland Fire Departments, the American Legion and Saint Mary’s parish to name a few. This Memorial Day parade was made even more special as our country celebrates its 250th anniversary and so we give thanks for those who gave all. Although many folks were involved in the planning and organization of the parade we would be remiss if we did not give thanks to Mrs Sara Rutter and her husband WM Dave Rutter jr for all their dedication and commitment to supporting the city of Portland and the civic organizations they love so much. Happy Memorial Day.

Forever in peace may you wave by Jeffrey Blayman
As the first heat wave of Spring warmed the stones of Center Cemetery in Portland an annual tradition was about to take place. Thanks to the dedication of RWB James H Landry PDD and some wonderful brothers new American Flags were placed on the graves of veterans on the week leading up to Memorial Day. The myriad of conflicts and wars they fought in ranged from the Revolutionary War , to the War of 1812, WWI, WWII, and Korea. It was truly a great sight to see as Br Brian Gilman, WB Stan Mackiewicz and WB Brett Braccidiferro, along with his family traversed the cemetery placing flags of honor as they went. God bless America.

For the LOVE of the game by Jeffrey A Blayman

When Brother Brian Anzellotti’s daughter began to show promise as a new member of the Portland high school tennis team he couldn’t help but wonder how the team could benefit from some modern technology. It was shortly thereafter that he found the Ace-Mate tennis robot which simulates realistic play by both serving and catching balls for every skill level. It uses cameras for shot tracking and omnidirectional wheels for movement. This was indeed a game changer for the Portland Girl’s tennis team! It was thanks to the efforts of WM David L Rutter Jr and the members of the lodge who were able to raise the funds with the support of numerous Portland based businesses and family friends. Not long after, the robot was purchased and donated along with 150 logo’d tennis balls bearing the Warren lodge #51 logo. Look out Wimbledon here they come!

Warren lodge #51 would like to thank the generosity of Demir at Campagna Restaurant, Paul at Portland Ale House, Lorraine Anzellotti, Brian & Lucille Vibberts, Chris Shallow, Jim & Christine Wilkinson, Brian & Suzanne of Schultz Electric, Jonah & Jen Piascik, Robert Krawic, Howard Swanson, Daniel Alexander, Primary Landscaping, Glendinning Marine Products, and of course…Karl with a K from NAPA of Portland!

A Golden Anniversary by Jeffrey A Blayman
On a temperate day in May, the Brothers of Washington lodge 81, with the support of members from Warren #51 and Anchor #112 paid a visit to a worthy brother. No doubt, on a memorable occasion 50 years ago, WB William D Stafford stood in the northeast corner of Washington lodge 81 in Cromwell as the youngest entered apprentice. And now after 50 years of faithful service and dedication it was the privilege of RWB Jeffrey A Blayman, Grand Junior Steward to present WB William his 50 year Masonic membership award on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut.
Brother Stafford now 88 years old and residing in Portland was surrounded by his many family members, the brothers of his mother lodge Washington 81 and other brothers of the seventh district. Everyone came to celebrate this Masonic milestone which started in 1976 and to offer recognition that only comes to those fortunate brethren who have labored faithfully for half a century. Every brother gives of his time and talents in his own way, and we are proud to honor WB William as one of our own and congratulate him for his dedication and service to our gentle craft over all these years.

A centennial celebration by Jeffrey A Blayman
April 2, 1926…. Roughly 100 years ago the brothers of Washington lodge 81 decided to erect a building for the betterment of Freemasonry in Cromwell. This prominent brick building sits at the edge of town welcoming brothers and travelers to this quiet hamlet. With a lovely lodge room adjacent to an ample dining hall the upstairs is well suited for every type of Masonic gathering. The commercial space downstairs is an income driver for the building and is the home of a Mason owned pizzeria called ABC Trattoria. The brothers of Washington #81 under the leadership of WM Mitch Kostich organized a nice meal after a quick meeting so that the brothers could enjoy this centennial celebration! After the feast Bro Richard Gorman entertained the guests with interesting facts and details about the generous brotherly gifts that helped build this edifice to Freemasonry. It was indeed a splendid evening celebrating the history of another great lodge in the 7th.

An evening of jubilation by Jeffrey Blayman.
On this special occasion the Annual Gala to honor our newest Grand Master of Connecticut Freemasonry was held at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT. The astounding number of guests was nearly 400 in total, yet the venue was ample enough to easily accommodate all who attended. The brothers and friends of Warren lodge 51 came to show their support and celebrate this momentous occasion. WM David L Rutter Jr. had procured two tables and transportation, enabling members to travel to and from with ease and fellowship. Many thanks to all the organizers for a fantastic evening and a hearty congratulations to our new MWGM Shane Dufresne.

A new journey begins by Jeffrey A Blayman

In masonry as in life, there will be many chapters each with its own subset of triumphs, trials and tribulations. The Masonic journey offers an opportunity for internal reflection and growth, and when realized can affect the entirety of one’s life mission. At the 237th annual communication of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut many fine brothers assembled from all over the state. Each Brother in his station, having taken their oath and offering their willingness to serve, stood proudly before the assembled guests. From year to the year, the names may change, but the overall fervency and passion does not. These men representing the grand lodge of Connecticut have dedicated their lives to the service of god, a worthy brother and their fellow man. Let us give thanks as the sun rises again on a new line of officers under the leadership of Brother Shane Dufresne, Most Worshipful Grand Master of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for the state of Connecticut. Congratulations to our brothers from the 7th district on their preferment and installation.

Easter in Portland by Sara Sterry Rutter

Warren Lodge #51 recently hosted the Sphinx Shrine of Newington Annual Easter Breakfast, drawing a strong turnout for a morning of food, fellowship, and community celebration.

The event was led by Chief Rabban Joseph Piatti Jr. and Assistant Rabban David Rutter Jr.—who also serves as Master of Warren Lodge #51—alongside Ill. Sir John J. Radziunas, 2026 Potentate; Santos Cordero, Oriental Guide; Marvin Troelsen, High Priest & Prophet; and Alvah Abbott. Both Joseph Piatti Jr. and Alvah Abbott are also members of Warren Lodge #51.

Families and community members of all ages enjoyed a festive atmosphere, highlighted by a special appearance from “Razzi” the clown and a visit from the Easter Bunny, bringing smiles and excitement to children in attendance.

The event reflected the strong partnership between the Shrine and local Masonic community, while celebrating the spirit of the Easter season in a warm and welcoming setting.

Parade season is upon us by Jeffrey A Blayman
On what seemed like an unusually temperate day on the first Sunday in March, the city of Norwich, Connecticut prepared to host its an annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. As per tradition since 2019, the brothers of Somerset-St. James #34 gathered together to march through the streets with the support of brothers from all over the state filling their ranks. The brothers made their way through the city center and were welcomed by the throngs of spectators with boisterous cheers and adulation. It was truly a wonderful day to enjoy the company of brothers and promote the fraternity while celebrating the coming of Spring. Upon the completion of the march, the brother said their goodbyes and made their way home, all prepared to march again in another fine city’s celebration next weekend. Happy St Patricks Day brothers All!
