This Thursday! Join us for a walk through Portland’s historic working waterfront with historian Seth Goldstein from 4:30–5:30pm.

As a new waterfront park begins to take shape, we’re taking a moment to explore the history that defines this place, from sailors and longshoremen to fishermen, and why it still matters today.

We’ll meet in the Ocean Gateway parking lot in front of Speckled Ax.

Welcome to another week of Portland’s Living Landmarks! 🌲 This week we have two large Sugar Maples found in Evergreen Cemetery!

We also have an exciting volunteer day happening in Evergreen on May 6th from 4-6 pm! We will be planting some new trees as a part of a multi-year effort to plant 80 new trees in the cemetery. This initiative is made possible thanks to a generous gift in memory of Val Healey, who cherished the grounds of Evergreen Cemetery.

All ages and experience are welcome and supplies will be provided! Please let us know if you will be joining us by filling out the form linked below!

A new waterfront park is coming to Portland!

This morning, we joined the City of Portland, partners, and community members to break ground on a new public greenspace along the eastern waterfront, currently referred to as Portland Harbor Common.

After more than five years of planning and fundraising, this 3.5-acre site will transform from a former parking area into a vibrant space with trails, trees, and room for community gatherings.

First envisioned by the late Richard “Dick” Barringer, whose legacy continues to guide this work, we heard remarks from his wife, Martha Freeman, along with Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities Ethan Hipple, Mayor Mark Dion, and our Executive Director Jack Phillips, all paying respect to Dick and his lasting impact.

Construction is now underway, with an anticipated opening in fall 2026.
