June is National Pride Month, and at Lines for Life, that means more than a colored logo.

It means showing up for LGBTQIA+ communities the way we do every day: with affirming, judgment-free crisis support through 988.

We're trained to listen without assumptions, support without labels, and make space for whatever you're carrying — your identity, your history, your moment.

If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988.

Mental Health Awareness Month and AANHPI Heritage Month gave us a dedicated space to explore what mental health support looks like when it truly reaches everyone. And as this month comes to a close, we want to be clear. Advocating for mental wellness, ending stigma, and building culturally responsive care doesn't pause because the calendar changed.

Culturally responsive care is nonnegotiable. Stigma keeps people silent. And asking for help is not a weakness.

The month is ending, but the conversations are far from over.

This Memorial Day, Lines for Life honors the service members who gave their lives for our country and stands with the veterans, military families, and communities still carrying that loss forward.

For many, today brings grief, difficult memories, or a quiet sense of isolation. A single conversation can change that.

The Military Helpline is here 24/7, staffed by people trained in military culture who pick up the phone ready to listen with care.

Call: 888-457-4838

Reach out. Or share this with someone who needs to see it today.

Mental health support is for everyone. Including older adults.

Loneliness isn't just hard on the heart emotionally. Research links chronic loneliness to physical and mental health consequences, including increased risk of depression, cognitive decline, and heart disease. And for many older adults, a quiet day with no one to talk to isn't occasional. It's every day.

The Senior Loneliness Line exists because connection is a health issue.

Our caring volunteers are here for a real conversation. No agenda. Just a warm, friendly voice for older adults who'd like someone to listen.

For Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, we're spotlighting YouthLine Hawaiʻi; a free, peer-to-peer crisis line for young people on Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi.

When YouthLine Hawai'i put out the call for youth volunteers to staff their new peer-to-peer crisis line, they hoped four students would respond. Twelve showed up.

For AANHPI youth carrying cultural expectations, family pressure, and the trauma of the 2023 Maui wildfires, having someone close to their age say "I hear you" can change everything.

"YouthLine is a place where you can talk without being judged. You don't have to be in a crisis to reach out." — Ayla, YouthLine Hawaiʻi volunteer

Thank you to everyone who attended our open house with tribal community partners from across Oregon last week.

We’re especially grateful to Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) for partnering with Lines for Life to bring people together for conversations about mental health, well-being, and community connection.

Collaboration helps strengthen culturally responsive support that reflects the strengths and needs of Native communities across our state. We appreciate every partner and community member who joined us and made these important conversations possible.

A heartfelt thank you to Portland Area Theatre Alliance (PATA), Portland Center Stage, and everyone involved in Tuesday evening’s staged reading of Marsha Norman’s ’night, Mother, a powerful work exploring mental health and end-of-life themes, in support of Lines for Life and other mental health nonprofits that are doing incredibly important work.

We’re deeply grateful to the organizers, performers, directors, community partners, and audience members who helped make this meaningful event possible during Mental Health Awareness Month.

We also appreciate Lines for Life’s strategy officer, Colleen Cadell for participating in the thoughtful post-show panel discussion alongside fellow community panelists.

Art and storytelling can open the door to important conversations about mental health, connection, and hope. Thank you for helping raise awareness and support for people who need compassionate care and someone to listen to.

Oregon just made history for young people in mental health crisis.

On May 7, Gov. Tina Kotek held a signing ceremony for Senate Bill 1546. A bill Lines for Life proudly championed alongside a coalition of behavioral health advocates.

SB 1546 requires AI companion platforms operating in Oregon to detect signs of suicidal ideation or self-harm and immediately connect users in crisis to resources like the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Additional protections apply when the user is a minor. Platforms must also report crisis referral data to the Oregon Health Authority, creating a public record of whether these companies are connecting people to help.

"New technology must be responsible," Gov. Kotek said at the signing ceremony.

This law recognizes something we have believed for a long time: AI companions should never replace real human care. And when someone is at their lowest, they deserve to be connected to support that can actually help.

Join us June 23 for our Military Culture Awareness & Su***de Prevention (MCASP) training. It’s for anyone who works with service members, veterans, and their families. This training is made possible by a $60,000 investment from The Boeing Company to expand military su***de prevention training across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Many people from this community face significant barriers when seeking mental health care — including providers who may not understand military culture, language, or other unique stressors of military life. This training bridges that gap.

Training Details:
When: Tuesday, June 23, 2026
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time
Where: Virtual (Zoom)
Who: Participants in Oregon and SW Washington counties only
Cost: $27.47 (Participants will be offered a $25 incentive upon completing a follow-up survey three months after the training)
CEUs: 6.5 continuing education units (NASW)
Register Today: https://ow.ly/z0oo50YXSPA
