A Pathway to a New Life

Pathways to Independence, Inc. was founded in September, 2003 in response to a need for employment consultants for Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation Services (OVRS). We have been serving ticket holders through the Ticket to Work Program since 2008. Kathy Friesen Holmquist, President, is a recognized expert in the field of Corporate Human Resources Employment and Employee Relations. She has served as an advocate for people with disabilities and is a parent of an adult daughter with disabilities. She has learned how to listen, mentor, and enable people with challenges to dream big dreams. She is a past Board Member and Chair of the Marketing Committee for the National Employment Network Association.

It really is all about a journey and a relationship we form with our clients. We work with them if they return to work full time for 3-1/2 to 5 years. We are there as a professional coach, benefits counselor, an employee/employer relations coach (to both manager and employee), career developer, and just a listening ear! Our strengths are that we build a relationship, we help them navigate a very difficult maze through changing Social Security benefits when they start earning money, we help them find the right employer, and we stay with them to help them succeed.

Under the Ticket to Work Program, Pathways provides career counseling, job acquisition tools, job accommodation planning, supervisor – employee relationship development, on-going professional coaching and Social Security Benefits assistance.
