Here is an exciting opportunity to volunteer with Oregon MESA. There are 5 upcoming opportunities in February and March.

Support the Next Generation of STEM Innovators!

MESA is looking for current or retired STEM professionals to volunteer as competition judges for middle and high school student invention projects at our upcoming regional Demo Days. Your role will be to evaluate projects using a simple rubric and give feedback that inspires young innovators.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours, including ~1 hour prep ahead of the event

National politics often dominates the headlines, fueling frustration and a sense of division. Too often, we forget that each of us has the power to shape a different story. This event will focus on how we can build trust, listen with respect, and find common ground on the issues that matter most locally and nationally. Together, we’ll explore practical ways to promote civil dialogue and strengthen community relationships.

Panelists Jack Miller, Rebecca Tweed, and Wendy Willis are experienced in civic engagement. They will explore this issue and share their views on the state of political discourse in Oregon and nationwide. They’ll also have suggestions about how to have productive conversations across political lines.

This week, SAGE wants to pause and recognize that across Oregon and beyond, your efforts are changing lives and creating new opportunities for the future.

This year, over 200 volunteers contributed to SAGE’s mission: inspiring people over fifty to give forward so future generations can thrive. Many more supported our partners and other organizations dedicated to building a brighter future.

Together, we helped:

🌿 Organize and facilitate 40 events

🌿 Mentor and tutor in math and literacy, and educate on climate solutions and jobs

🌿 Serve on our Emerging Leaders Action Board to promote intergenerational connections

🌿 Give presentations, share stories, lead projects, and much more

In April, we were honored to welcome the late Dr. Jane Goodall as our Visiting SAGE. More than 1200 people attended our event and heard her message of hope:

“Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.”

To all of you, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the trees you are planting—literally and figuratively—knowing you may never sit in their shade.

Working Across Generations to Build a Brighter Future

SAGE is currently inviting applications to our Emerging Leaders Action Board (LAB)

SAGE's Leaders Action Board (LAB) is a program for early-career leaders who are seeking growth opportunities in education, career, and civic service. LAB Leaders serve as an intergenerational bridge to advance solutions to challenges facing our shared future.

The LAB works to:

- Promote opportunities to give forward in all stages of life.

- Support emerging leaders to develop their collaboration, advocacy, and leadership skills.

As a LAB Leader, you connect with diverse partners through SAGE while advancing your education and career. LAB Leaders meet about ten times a year, in person, and online on occasion.

SAGE’s Young Leaders Advisory Board (LAB) serves as a multigenerational bridge to advance solutions to our shared future.
