We are slowly emerging from a very long brumation.

This turtle is emerging from brumation (a stage very similar to hibernation in mammals).

As in hibernation, during brumation, the activity of the reptiles decreases and they need to eat less. Some reptiles can go the entire winter without eating.

The photograph is real and was taken by Timothy Roth, professor of psychology at Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA)

It has come to our attention that there are a bunch of businesses operating with a similar name, some of whom are doing awesome work many of us have always dreamed of. We are contemplating a name change. What would you call us?

Here is a link to a website for an admirable group we just found on a quick search of the web:

That's not us, but that work is a dream we shared far and wide for years.

We’re trying to put farmers, workers, and local consumers first— by creating a community owned, cooperatively run— grocery store, commercial kitchen & cafe. EAT — it’s basically Everything All Together.

Sorry we have been out standing in our fields for the last couple years, not here on social media. We are starting our spring moves from our old rural half acre to various urban sites. What plants would you & you & you too like us to bring town?

Help fund our move to what I like to call The Food Not Bombs Farm and some other urban sites:

Venmo OrganicEarthArts1 ..or call/text 503.719.1626 for other payment arrangements, to host a plant sale/art show event, or to get otherwise involved in the food sustainability movement!

Thanks!

Food literally just grows out of the ground. You can plant it and pick it and eat it.

Pollinator week is a great time for us to talk about how pollinator habitat and agriculture must co-exist. There are some misconceptions out there that recommend a buffer (roughly 120 feet) between agricultural crop fields and pollinator habitats due to concerns of the negative impact agricultural activities may have on the pollinators themselves. In all reality, research suggests that the net gain associated with having all of the acres of high quality pollinator habitat possible on the landscape does outweigh the negative impacts in these areas. This is very important to note as areas of high agricultural production in the Midwest contribute significantly to the eastern monarch butterfly population! This video from our friends at does a great job explaining how agriculture and pollinator habitat impact each other!

Scientists have revived a plant from the Pleistocene epoch. This plant is 32,000 years old

The oldest plant ever to be regenerated has been grown from 32,000-year-old seeds—beating the previous recordholder by some 30,000 years A Russian team discovered a seed cache of Silene stenophylla, a flowering plant native to Siberia, that had been buried by an Ice Age squirrel near the banks of the Kolyma River (map). Radiocarbon dating confirmed that the seeds were 32,000 years old
