Founded in 2003, the Catholic Foundation of Maine, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to providing financial support for Catholic entities in Maine, today, and in perpetuity. The Foundation can help you make gifts to or begin a new endowment, charitable gift annuity or make a gift in your will to the endowments that support the Catholic faith, ministries, churches, education and vocations in Maine. The executive director is available for personalized, confidential discussions of tax- and lifestyle-advantaged ways to make charitable gifts.

Please pray with us today as we remember all those we lost on 9/11. Today is the 25th anniversary of the deadliest incident for first responders and still the deadliest terrorist attack in history.

In a statement marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the USCCB, said, “As we prayerfully remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001, I invite all Catholics to join me in prayer for the victims taken from us in acts of unjustifiable violence 25 years ago at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in rural Pennsylvania. In a special way, we lovingly embrace in prayer the victims’ families and friends, who still mourn the irretrievable loss of their loved ones on that day. We also remember the first responders and emergency workers, so many who gave their lives in selfless acts of courage."

Our diocese began celebrating our annual Blue Mass in response to the 9/11 attacks to pray for and honor our first responders. This year, we will celebrate two Blue Masses, one at the Basilica of Sts. peter and Paul in Lewiston on September 20, and one at Holy Rosary Church in Caribou on September 27. We hope you'll join us.
