DU got its start in 1937 during the Dust Bowl when North America’s drought-plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows. ll group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became known as Ducks Unlimited. Its mission: habitat conservation. Portland Chapter of Ducks Unlimited was in existence for a number of decades before folding in the 1990s. In 2008, Michael and Mia Crupper restarted the Portland Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
