Join us this Sunday for a film screening & panel discussion exploring housing insecurity, recovery, and resilience in Portland.

We’ll screen Helpers, a documentary by local filmmaker and advocate Kelly Clendenon, followed by reflections from the filmmaker and a live panel of experts discussing the realities of housing instability, addiction, and recovery in our region, featuring both frontline workers and people with lived experience.

What if we focused on preventing homelessness before it happens?

Join us at the Housing Forum on March 12th from 6:30–8:30pm at the Beaverton City Library Auditorium for an important conversation about working upstream to keep our neighbors housed.

We’re proud to share that our Executive Director, Angela Martin, will be joining community leaders as a panelist to discuss real solutions and bold strategies to prevent homelessness before it starts.

What if the solution to homelessness isn’t more rules, but more trust?

Oregon’s Direct Cash Transfer Pilot shows that unrestricted cash and support works. Ninety-four percent of participating young adults are now housed. Families in similar programs report not just stability, but time. Time to care for their kids, cook meals, and breathe.

This approach challenges old ideas about who “deserves” help. But if we’re serious about ending homelessness, we have to be serious about outcomes.

What does this program spotlight bring up for you? Whether it sparks strong feelings, ideas, questions, or reflections, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Send us a DM.

Big change starts small, sometimes in a living room, a conference room, or your local library. ☕🏠💬

Community Conversations on Homelessness are small-group gatherings where neighbors, coworkers, and friends come together to talk honestly about our region's response to homelessness,

When we have these conversations in the spaces we already spend time— our workplaces, community groups, and homes— we build understanding, dispel misconceptions, and spark action.

By hosting, you’re not just starting a conversation—you’re creating a space where people feel heard, valued, and empowered to be part of the solution. You decide the location, invite your people, and we’ll give you all the tools you need to make it meaningful.

Chris Daggett, a third-generation Bend resident, once owned a home and worked as a contractor. Life took unexpected turns, leading him to experience homelessness firsthand. His journey reshaped his perspective, highlighting the profound truth that those with the least often give the most.

As Bend faces a housing crisis, stories like Chris's remind us of the resilience within our community and the urgent need for compassionate solutions.
Many people struggling with housing instability have deep local roots. They went to school here. Worked here. Cared for family here.

The community hasn’t changed — the cost of living has. And it’s pushing long-time residents out of their homes and into survival.

The mission of Street Books is simple: providing literature to unhoused people in Portland.

But the impact of the organization goes beyond books – it’s an entry point to form relationships with people who are often kept at the margins of society. Street librarian Diana Rempe witnesses that first-hand, as someone involved with the organization for 14 years.

“Books are a great way in, like offering somebody a book and knowing that we share that kind of connection to story – to wanting to know more about the world. That we recognize people who are living outside as people who desire a life of the mind is really a beautiful way to begin a friendship with someone who you might not otherwise know,” said Rempe.

As the Oregon legislature considers HB 2138, which would eliminate most single-family zoning requirements to make middle housing easier to build, looking to other places that have cut building restrictions to foster production could provide some insight.

A recent case study from Austin, TX suggests focusing on easing housing production restrictions could make a real difference on the cost of living. Since reaching a “cost of living emergency” in 2021, the city has slashed development restrictions. The result: a flurry of new builds and decreased rent and mortgage rates.

Could a similar strategy work in Oregon? We’re keeping an eye on how Governor Kotek’s housing strategy will impact the state’s goal of building 36,000 new housing units per year.
