Family Shakespeare in Portland:On Hiatus for 2012

Family Shakespeare in Portland:On Hiatus for 2012 Due to the New England Shakespeare Festival closing down, we won't be having a performance in 2012. We hope to revive it in the future.

06/20/2012

I am sorry to say that Family Shakespeare in Portland is going on hiatus this year. Over the last four years, Family Shakespeare in Portland has really just been a vehicle to bring the New England Shakespeare Festival to Portland. After years of valiant efforts to keep it going, Demi Papadinis, the principal of NESF, has decided to close the company down.

Family Shakespeare may return in a future year, but we will all miss the great experiences the company gave to the Portland.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight for a great production. The rain held off, and the New England Shakespeare Festival performed their special magic with Measure for Measure, one of the more difficult of Shakespeare's plays. Email me any pictures you took and I'll post them.

I just came from the Portland Town Green, and the New England Shakespeare Festival has started setting up. It will be a great night, and I hope to see a lot of you there!

The weather is looking good for tomorrow, so we are going to be at the Green tomorrow, no matter what the weather. The weather report is good for our performance time, but a bringing an umbrella may not be a bad idea!

The weather may be poor on Saturday night, but remember we have a great rain venue at the Brownstone Intermediate School, across Main Street from the Green. It is a Tudor revival room, so is perfect for Shakespeare!

Family Shakespeare is going on television. I'll be on Portland On the Move with Dave Kuzminski on Tuesday, August 2, around 8:30 to discuss the Family Shakespeare program. The show is on local channel 15. I hope this will bring even more people, so make sure you join the crowd a week from Saturday.

Here is the audio of my discussion of Family Shakespeare on the Colin McEnroe Show. It is at minute 25:10. I didn't get as much identifying information in as I wanted, but maybe I can get some people searching.

If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It’s Greek to me," you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger, if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you have ever refu

I was able to talk about the program on the Colin McEnroe show today. They will also post information on their website about the performance, so I hope the program will be exposed to a lot more people this year.
