We savored:
Obon Pickle Bowl – this amazing bowl has seasoned sprouted brown rice topped with a rotating selection of 3 kinds of house-made tsukemono (Japanese pickles), and 3 kinds of osozai (small Japanese vegetable side dishes). This one had yuzu daikon, salted cabbage, umesu cucumber, miso mayo tofu, and kinpira carrots and celery with tamari, sugar, and sesame oil. All of this comes with a cup of house-made miso soup with a choice of 3 types. We had the aromatic and umami-rich Buddha’s hand with hominy miso. This will be gone on 10/14, so get it while you can. (Gluten-free)
Tofu Katsu – tofu from Ota Tofu marinated in a soy/sesame/ginger mixture and breaded with Little T American Baker panko. Served with a sweet and tangy house tonkatsu dressing. This tofu is amazing, crispy on the outside with a meaty but tender consistency inside.
Okonomiyaki – cabbage and onion pancake with fried tofu and ginger-pickled beets, topped with house tonkatsu sauce, house-made tofu-based mayo, house furikake, and shichimi. Crispy outside, tender and juicy inside, with luscious toppings, we could happily eat this every day. Both this version with ginger-pickled beets and the other one with kimchi are fantastic.
Cheesecake with Peach Apple Sauce – rich and creamy Cultured Kindness New York-style cheesecake with lovely peach apple sauce made by Obon Shokudo. Dreamy. (Gluten-free)
Ginger Turmeric Tonic – bracing, refreshing, and revitalizing.
Pot of Kuwacha Mulberry Leaf Herbal Tea – mild, gently earthy, comforting, and caffeine-free.
