PIL Hall of Fame Honoring student athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers

The Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Fame is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operated by volunteers and supported by generous sponsors and donors. The PIL Hall of Fame honors outstanding student-athletes, coaches and other contributors who have made Portland Public Schools' athletics programs thrive since the league formed in the early 20th century. More than 1,000 of these individuals

are profiled in this website, which saves our organization the expense of operating a brick-and-mortar facility. Additionally, the Hall of Fame assists PIL sports by donating funds to support Portland Public Schools athletics programs. In the past, these donations have helped fund scholarships, athletic trainer expenses, participation fees, equipment and facility improvements.

Considering the stratosphere she has entered, it surprised absolutely nobody at the HOF to see Lincoln High School's Ellery Lincoln sweep the Class 6A 3,000- and 1,500-meter state titles at Hayward Field in Eugene. Still, she managed to add a little extra flair to an already remarkable performance.

Lincoln is no longer just one of Oregon's elite high school runners, she's becoming a national name. Among the athletes she now shares NIL partnerships with are American record holders, Olympians, a World Championship gold medalist, and multiple U.S. national champions. To be mentioned alongside some of the biggest names in women's distance running while still in high school is a testament to the extraordinary level she has reached.

The trophies are impressive. The company she keeps is even more impressive. Soon on the 12&32 show? Coach Detton?

We look forward to watching the young Astros make their claim on the Hall in the new gym opening next school year.

**Simon Benson was a Norwegian-born American businessman and philanthropist who was active in the city of Portland. In 1916, Benson gave the Portland School District $100,000 to help fund the building of a polytechnic school. Finished in 1918, the school was first used for the training of soldiers for World War I. It was re-opened to high school students in January 1919 and renamed Benson Polytechnic.

The PIL Hall of Fame page is built on the stories, memories, and experiences that make Portland Interscholastic League athletics so special.

We invite our followers to submit photos, stories, opinions, historical information, and personal memories from their days in the PIL. Whether you're a former athlete, coach, student, official, or fan, we'd love to help preserve and share the rich history of PIL sports.

A few guidelines: please keep submissions respectful, family-friendly, and focused on celebrating athletes, teams, coaches, and the positive impact of sports. We reserve the right to edit, decline, or remove content that is inaccurate, offensive, political, commercial in nature, or unfairly critical of individuals, unless you target Trojans.

Help us tell the story of the PIL—one memory at a time. Please email your content to [email protected].
