This week's Event of the Week is Boys Soccer Senior Night! Come out this Tuesday, October 20th, as the Roughriders take on Franklin. Senior Night festivities begin at 6:00pm, followed by the game at 7pm on our turf. Admission is free!

Before the game, seniors will be recognized on the field for their contributions to the team throughout their high school career. These student athletes will soon be joining us as alumni, so let's come together to celebrate them!

With some nice weather expected, it's a great opportunity to enjoy one of the last outdoor sporting events of the fall. Bring some classmates and cheer on the team!

During the pre-game festivities, we had a booth set up to share what we're doing as the Alumni Association! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn about volunteering, donating, or just to say hi. We also loved getting to talk to current students about how we've been supporting their activities, and hand out candy and stickers 😉

We had a great time at the Tailgate BBQ before the game last night! We fed several hundred fans, mostly students, with burgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, and all the toppings you could need.

Thank you to our partners, Roosevelt Supporter Club, for always running the BBQ line like professionals. We couldn't do it without them, and we make a pretty good team!

October Note from the President:

I recently heard the term "HOCO" and wanted to know what it meant. Like many things new to us older Alums, I learned it means Homecoming. As past students of Roosevelt High School, it is always a great time coming home to root for the “Black and Old Gold”. Our current-day students treat Homecoming just like we did. It’s a chance to be with friends, have fun, cheer on our team, and have a big celebration dance too! The spirit at Roosevelt is contagious, and if you decide to join us, you will see that it is a wonderful tradition that has spanned many years.

I remember Homecoming as a student. With the exception of my freshman year, I was either on the football field or in the locker room during the halftime festivities. As an athlete, it was my favorite game of the year. In the old days, halftime included introducing the Homecoming Court as they rode around the track in convertibles. Today the tradition is more modern, but the celebration is the same. For me, the best part about Homecoming was the after-game dance! Let the celebration begin!

We started a tradition at Roosevelt about 10 years ago called the Tailgate BBQ. At our first event, we fed about 350 people, mostly students and their siblings. That first event was the toughest and most satisfying event that I have ever been a part of. The students were gracious and understanding no matter how far behind we got. It was just an event where we could share a meal with a student, and it mattered. The purpose is still the same today, and over the years we have had more participation from our Alums. We also could not have kept this going without the help of the Roosevelt Supporter Club, which is the modern-day PTA.

We’ll feed close to 800 students, siblings, teachers, alumni, and parents this year. This is the best place to be on a Friday night in October. While here, you can meet current students and find your old friends too! Just have a great time! Hope to see you there!

This Friday evening the whole community is invited to come celebrate Roosevelt High School! Join us for a BBQ, a variety of booths and activities, and what is sure to be a great football game. Students, staff, parents, alumni, Future Riders, neighbors - everyone!

Tailgate, including the BBQ, is free. Football tickets are $7/adults and $5/students.

This week's Event of the Week is an easy one! Roosevelt Girls Soccer is hosting a fundraiser at our local St. Johns Burgerville on Monday, October 12th, from 4–8pm. Stop by for dinner and 20% of your purchase will go towards supporting the team!

All orders at the St. Johns location count, including mobile orders. Just show the flyer in the second slide when ordering, or use code BVGIVES in the Burgerville app.

Each week, we're encouraging alumni to support current students by showing up for Roosevelt. This time, all you need to do is grab a burger and fries!

Roosevelt’s Magic: The Gathering Club brings students together over the popular tabletop trading card game, and the RHSAA recently awarded them a $360 grant to support their quarterly card drafts and tournaments!

For these events, students open brand new packs of cards from a newly released set, use those cards to build their own decks, and then compete over the following weeks. Starting everyone with new cards creates an even playing field and gives students a chance to participate regardless of how many cards they can afford to purchase on their own. It’s a fun, collaborative way for club members to play, strategize, and build their skills together.

In previous years, club members volunteered at the student store during lunch to earn money for these events, but the store is closed this year. Our grant will help fill that gap and keep the drafts free for Roosevelt students.

We’re happy to support student-led clubs that give Roughriders a place to connect with each other over something they enjoy!
