Join us in cleaning up Beach Elementary School grounds at the Community Care event this Saturday, August 27, 9am - 12pm!

1710 N. Humbolt St.

Our work on Sat will make a big difference in preparation for the arrival of students next week.
The focus will be to remove w**ds from high use areas, pick up trash on the grounds, and spread mulch.
When you arrive on Saturday morning, sign in at the playground area. We'll have a liability release form from the district and more specific information about the morning's plan of attack.
Please, if you have them*, bring
- your garden gloves
- your favorite w**ding tools (hand rake, hori-hori, clippers, edger)
- 5-gallon buckets or wheelbarrows, for toting w**ds back to the compost area
- a w**d whacker (battery or gas powered, to reach the field)
- friends! 😉
*But don't worry if you don't have tools--we will have extras to share.

Overlook Neighborhood Garage Sale
QUICK REMINDER that this year's Overlook Yard Sale will be Saturday July 17th, running from 10am-4pm (more or less). This is a chance to group our neighborhood's yard sales together on the same date, aggregating them together to help drive more foot traffic by interested buyers and give neighbors a chance to take a moment and reconnect. If you wish to be included on this year's neighborhood map for the yard sale, please fill out the quick form at this link: http://sustainableoverlook.org/sale-and-share-2021
Your address (but no other personally-identifiable information) will be shared on an online map that buyers can use to find the homes having sales that day. The deadline to sign up is this coming Friday July 9th. You do not need to sign up to participate, but it could help bring you more business.

The complementary Free Share will happen the next day, Sunday July 18th, in which yard sale hosts or anyone with unused items can set them out curbside with a FREE sign in the hopes they will be taken into another home, helping to extend their lifecycle and avoiding the landfill.
We hope to see you out there!

Firework Ban In Effect
Portland, as well as other jurisdictions around Oregon and SW Washington, has instated a complete firework ban ahead of this weekend's Fourth of July holiday in hopes to prevent any unintentional forrest fires. With the hot weather we've had in the weeks leading up to the holiday local leaders have said they fear even small fireworks could create significant danger. Please stay safe this weekend. Some notes from our weekly Overlook emails:

Heritage Tree Dedication July 8

Our beautiful and iconic American Elm tree in Overlook Park is finally getting the recognition it deserves. You’re invited to join us on Thursday, July 8, at 5:30 to dedicate and install this tree as a Heritage Tree Less than 400 trees in the city of Portland, and only four other American Elms, have received this special designation by City Council.
