The Portland Volunteer Vixens

The Portland Volunteer Vixens We support humanitarian, animal, environmental, and educational organizations and causes.

~Join Forces with Fabulously Philanthropic Females to Better Our Communities and the World!~ The Portland Volunteer Vixens provide (wo)manpower to local nonprofits and host Fabulous FUNdraiser & Donation Drive Events! The Portland Volunteer Vixens is comprised of a diverse group of women who get together to volunteer and donate to nonprofits in the greater Portland Metro area. Group volunteer

opportunities are provided on varying times and days, with an average of four events per month. Members need only sign up for events that fit their interests and their schedule. One of the characteristics that sets the Portland Volunteer Vixens apart from other volunteer organizations is that we enjoy combining our love for community service with socializing and having fun! From donation drives over happy hour to soup kitchens followed by wine tasting to tree planting followed by a trip to the spa, there is a volunteer event to fit everyone's taste and an exciting social activity to make even the most undesirable philanthropic event fun and rewarding! No in-depth knowledge of any one cause or special skills are required; only the desire to make a difference and to have fun while doing it!

Right now, babies need all the help they can get. Premature birth affects about 380,000 babies here in the United States. We’re walking in March for Babies to get the message out about this terrible problem and you can help. Please make a secure donation to help us reach our goal. Together we can help the March of Dimes fight prematurity so more babies can get the strongest start possible.

Sand in the City is an all volunteer, non-profit organization committed to furthering the well-being of children in the greater Portland Metro area through proceeds generated by an awesome annual sand castle building event and competition in downtown Portland. This year the event is on Friday, July 17, Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20th. They have a huge need for volunteers for the afternoon and evening shifts. All volunteers get to help out youth in Portland, hear wonderful live music, watch as teams construct huge sand sculptures, and get a fun free t-shirt! All proceeds go to benefit non-profits that serve youth in Portland including: The White Shield Center, Impact NW's Communities for Safe Kids, Open Meadows Community School, and more! Watch teams sculpt amazing sand structures in the middle of Pioneer Courthouse Square and help support Communities for Safe Kids at the same time! They need alcohol monitors, face painters, greeters, and more! If you have some free time next Friday, Saturday, or Sunday please consider signing up for a shift at: (http://sandinthecitypdx.org/volunteer-sandpdx/. Check out the website (http://sandinthecitypdx.org/) for more information, plus a cool time-lapse video of last years sculptures! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer alone, there is no age limit for accompanied volunteers, so feel free to volunteer as a family!

Friendly House is in need of some much needed help this Thursday with berry picking at Rowell Bros. Berry Farm (https://www.facebook.com/RowellBrosBerryFarm), located in the Scholls area between Hillsboro and Newberg. Rowell Bros. has generously promised them 300 lbs of blackberries for FREE - if they can get enough volunteers to pick them all this Thursday, June 25th! If you are even available for a short while they would love to have your help with picking. They need volunteers anytime between 8:30 am - 3:00 pm on Thursday. Friendly House will make jam with the berries this coming weekend, and the proceeds go to helping their wonderful nonprofit preschool program. You may also pick berries for yourself @ $1.35/lb. You can sign-up to volunteer for this project at Sign-Up on VolunteerSpot: http://vols.pt/ivntCy. For more info go to http://www.friendlyhouseinc.org/friendly-fruit/.

Our Preschool is one of the many Friendly House programs that relies on outside funding to remain accessible to children of all income levels. For the past two years, a major source of fundraising has come from selling our jam. Our jam is a true community effort. The berries are all picked by volun…

Meals on Wheels People needs your help with Donate Dinner, November 22nd – 26th. Donate Dinner is an annual fundraising campaign that provides grocery shoppers at 28 stores the opportunity to “donate dinner to a homebound senior” when they shop for their Thanksgiving meals. Customers simply add the cost of one or more meals to their grocery bill when they check out at the register. It’s easy!

Volunteer on your own or with a friend: Sign up for a two hour shift by yourself or with a friend or family member at one of 28 locations. Greet customers and hand them a Donate Dinner card that explains how their donation will help Meals on Wheels People provide meals for seniors. http://donatedinner.org/index.cfm

Donate Dinner is one of the largest volunteer events in the Portland metropolitan area. Last year, 1,500 people volunteered for 2-hour shifts and the outcome was incredible – they raised more than $245,000 to support Meals on Wheels People. Thats 62,000 meals for seniors in our community!
