Sand in the City is an all volunteer, non-profit organization committed to furthering the well-being of children in the greater Portland Metro area through proceeds generated by an awesome annual sand castle building event and competition in downtown Portland. This year the event is on Friday, July 17, Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20th. They have a huge need for volunteers for the afternoon and evening shifts. All volunteers get to help out youth in Portland, hear wonderful live music, watch as teams construct huge sand sculptures, and get a fun free t-shirt! All proceeds go to benefit non-profits that serve youth in Portland including: The White Shield Center, Impact NW's Communities for Safe Kids, Open Meadows Community School, and more! Watch teams sculpt amazing sand structures in the middle of Pioneer Courthouse Square and help support Communities for Safe Kids at the same time! They need alcohol monitors, face painters, greeters, and more! If you have some free time next Friday, Saturday, or Sunday please consider signing up for a shift at: (http://sandinthecitypdx.org/volunteer-sandpdx/. Check out the website (http://sandinthecitypdx.org/) for more information, plus a cool time-lapse video of last years sculptures! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer alone, there is no age limit for accompanied volunteers, so feel free to volunteer as a family!
