Have I entertained you with a little logical analysis yet? This is great: A logical analysis of Murphy.’s Law, which is known to be true for humans, and after this week I know you agree!
Quick Logic overview:
If p then q (true, “given”).
If q then p (maybe true maybe false, “converse statement”).
If not p then not q (same truth as converse statement, “inverse statement”).
If not q then not p. (true, “contra-positive statement”).
M's Law: “If something can go wrong, it will.”
Realm/Universe: You/Someone is doing something.
“If something can go wrong” is a tautology. Something can certainly go wrong.
“It will go wrong” eventually this statement becomes a tautology, given infinite (or just a bunch of, or if you’re really unlucky - one) recursions.
Human nature (luck to power of -1) makes it go wrong now/next. M’s Law stands!
Therefore, the contra-positive statement, known logically to be true, is “If nothing will go wrong, it’s because you’re not going to be doing anything that can go wrong.” Or “If it didn’t go wrong, then you weren’t doing anything of value (or against nature).”
This is very Zen Buddhism sounding to me. To be more Right, one strives to be more Nothing. So important a message, that having a firm Voice about ones do no-thing-ing “I am enlightened!” is part of Buddhahood. Peeps gotta hear the message or they’ll keep causing more suffering and unbalanced harm.
