The AOP Committee is working to create meaningful events and opportunities for Portland’s Athletic & Outdoor professional community through Education, Networking, and Mentorship Most importantly, be sure to like this page to be the first to know about future AOYP events. We will be hosting three major events a year:
1) Summer - An annual networking event with a key note from an industry leader
2)

Winter - A more focused event, centered on education and mentorship
3) Spring- An active networking event

"Monthly Meet Ups"
To maintain engagement and involvement, AOYP will also be throwing monthly meet ups at various locations throughout the Portland area. These casual networking opportunities will not require pre-registration like our major annual events, all you gotta do is show up and meet up. Locations and dates are below so be sure to plan ahead!

One of China’s largest zipper manufacturers is opening up shop in Portland. SBS Zipper, headquartered in China’s Fujian province, chose Portland as its American home due to the city’s plethora of apparel manufacturers.

While SBS has yet to choose a permanent location, it is currently operating out of GPI’s Soft Land Portland, a residency program for foreign businesses looking to open offices in Portland. Onlyisa Yu, the company’s U.S. representative, said that SBS Zipper plans to continue hiring once it finds a permanent home and as its U.S. operation grows.

The path to creating Black Earth United was not straight or fast for founder Jocelyn Rice. Disillusioned by her experience in the outdoor apparel industry, Jocelyn set out to create a brand in which thought, care, and intention were infused into every step of the creative process—from design and materials sourcing all the way through production and sales.

The Uniquely Portland Event Grant is now open for applications. The grant supports events that showcase Portland’s vibrant communities while bringing people together in the heart of our central city and neighborhood business districts. Awards will range from $500 to $7,500 to support community-driven events and placemaking activities that communicate vibrancy, joy, and uniquely Portland culture to broader audiences.
