Betty’s Story

Betty’s Background

Oak Grove resident Betty Dominguez is seeking the Metro Council seat representing District 2, Clackamas County. The seat has been opened by the retirement of Councilor Carlotta Collette.

Betty is a longtime leader on some of the most critical issues facing Metro and the communities it represents, housing, equity and transportation. No other candidate can match her successful, hands on experience. Her deep background in affordable housing is especially important as Metro considers it’s first-ever affordable housing funding measure. She currently serves as the Director of East County Relationships at Home Forward with a focus on East County and social equity projects. Home Forward is the housing authority serving Multnomah County. Over the past eleven years, she has also served as the Assistant Director in the agency’s Real Estate Development Department.

Betty’s career spans real-estate development and construction financing. She moved to Oregon in 1996 to work as a regional advisor to the Director of Oregon’s Housing Finance Agency, marrying her experience in finance with her deep passion for working for people in need. In that role she assisted public, private and non-profit entities develop thousands of affordable housing units around the state, as well as with community development and main street revitalization efforts.

Betty’s Record

Betty brings extensive experience working with Metro, serving on the Metro Policy Advisory Committee (MPAC) as the Clackamas County Citizen Representative. She has also worked for three years on Metro’s Equity Strategy advisory committee. She serves on Portland Housing Bureau’s Advisory Committee (PHAC), and Clackamas County’s Housing Advisory Board, among others. She is a past board president of Greater Portland Habitat for Humanity and a past member of the Metro Regional Boys & Girls Club board, having been a member of a local Boys & Girls Club in San Diego for several years.

Betty’s Story

Betty’s life story has informed her decision to work for our community. She raised two daughters as a single parent, often struggling to afford housing and pay the bills. “I understand first-hand the struggles facing our region’s families. Metro is at the center of the issues of affordability, accessible transportation and creating a place that provides opportunity for all members of the community. I offer a unique mix of experience and priorities that are right for this moment.”

Betty lives in Clackamas County and is mom to two daughters who are both specialty care registered nurses and is the proud grandma of a straight A’s fourteen-year-old grandson.
