The Future of Leach Botanical Garden is at Risk

We need your help! This month we will begin reducing programs, staffing, and operating hours due to cash shortfalls that began with significant reductions ($350K) in City support in 2025. Without additional funding, the future of the Garden is at risk.

The Garden needs additional funding of $50K/month to avoid further service and staffing cuts. Leach Garden Friends Board and staff are actively seeking donations, renewed city support, and corporate sponsorships to restore services and keep this beloved community resource accessible and thriving.

Effective immediately, Leach Garden Friends will:
• Layoff (50%) 11 staff members; reduce hours for remaining staff, moving from 15.7 to 6.7FTE (Full Time Equivalent), beginning Feb. 22.
• Reduce garden operating hours to Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Feb. 26.
• Cut horticulture services back to basic maintenance only.
• Reduce public programming by 90%.

Despite the reduction in staff and services, the Garden will:
• Continue to honor all memberships, scheduled weddings, and partner events.
• Continue commitments to the Back 5 Community Habitat Enhancement Project and its partners.

How You Can Help:
• Become a monthly recurring donor. This is the best way to help with consistent, predictable income for the garden! Please consider donating even $10 every month as a recurring donor.
• Make a donation today.
• Organize a group visit.
• Buy a membership for yourself or your friends.
Each of these actions will help us show that this garden matters to our community, that it makes a difference for our health and well-being. We know this place is important to you, and we are committed to do our best to keep the garden open and accessible.
