Join us. Who We Are
We are an organized and motivated group of volunteers with over 30 years advocating for access to trails, building trails, and maintaining trails. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Portland OR, serving roughly a 60 mile radius extending from the Oregon coast, into parts of Southern Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mount

St Helens National Monument, and to the Western foothills of Mount Hood National Forest. We work with approximately 10 federal, state, county, and municipal land management agencies, as well as private land managers. Our Vision
NWTA's vision is for a culture of land stewardship and community engagement to be central to mountain biking. This involves a large engaged membership, solid partnerships with land management agencies, good relationships with sponsors, a strong leadership and communications team, and close ties with the mountain bike industry.

Most group rides focus on the trail.

These rides focus on everything around it.

This summer, we’re partnering with an ecologist, a forester, and a wildlife biologist to help members better understand the forests, wildlife, and ecosystems that make our trails possible.

Only 2 spots left for the Coldwater Lake Campout & Work Party.

Meanwhile ... 👀

LapQuest at EasyCLIMB and the Falls Creek Work Party still have room for a few more trail-loving humans.

And if you haven’t ridden Falls Creek yet, it’s one of the best trail gems that somehow still flies under the radar.

Join NWTA! Our friends at PROPAIN Bicycles North America know how important local trail stewards are ... and they have donated a custom Tyee Trail bike (up to $4,999 MSRP) that one lucky rider will win by joining or renewing between May 21 and June 30, 2026.

Why does membership matter?? Let us count the ways ...

▪️New trails in Cascade Locks? Membership
▪️113 kids on bikes? Membership.
▪️Tools, machine repairs, hard hats, and gloves? Membership.
▪️Coordinating nearly 20,000 volunteer hours in 2025? Membership.
▪️Clean porta-potty at Rocky Point? Yep, that’s membership, too. :)

This only scratches the surface of how powerful your support is.

How many laps can you do in two hours?

More importantly ... how many excuses can you come up with after lap five? 👀

Join us for LapQuest at EasyCLIMB on June 6. Ride at your own pace, challenge yourself to see how many laps you can complete, then stick around for food, good company, and trail stories afterward.

We know that trails do not maintain themselves, and access does not happen by accident.

That’s what NWTA membership helps make possible.

More than 70% of NWTA’s annual revenue comes directly from members. That support helps us advocate for trails, organize volunteer dig days, lead rides, build community, and create more opportunities for people to get outside on bikes.

Join NWTA and help support the future of trails in the Portland region.

Eight women. A few first-time mountain bikers. One rider returning after a decade away. And a whole lot of encouragement at Sandy Ridge.

From trail-side mechanical fixes and high-fives to riders already planning future rides together, this NW Trail Sisters beginner ride was exactly what community on bikes should look like.

May 28, 2026 by NW TANW Trail Sisters welcomed a group of women riders to Sandy Ridge on May 16th for a beginner-friendly mountain bike ride focused on building confidence, creating connections, and helping newer riders feel at home on the trails. The event brought together eight women riders for an...

Nine volunteers. Five Hagg Lake first-timers. One important step toward a more sustainable trail system at Hagg Lake.

Last weekend, NWTA volunteers continued work on a trail re-route project focused on improving drainage, reducing erosion, and creating a better riding experience for years to come.

May 27, 2026 by NW TANWTA volunteers continued progress on an important trail re-route project at Henry Hagg Lake on May 24th, with a focused day of trail improvement work aimed at enhancing both sustainability and rider experience. A crew of nine volunteers spent the day tackling several key projec...

Even though it’s Tuesday, it somehow feels like a Monday.
(That whole holiday-on-a-Monday thing.)

But hey … it’s still Tuesday. Which means the week is already moving fast.

Which also means our next dig days are closer than they feel, and we’ve got two good options:

1️⃣ Sandy Ridge ... getting trails dialed for Shuttle Day.
2️⃣ EasyCLIMB ... getting trails ready for LapQuest.

So what’s it gonna be?

Digging in the Gorge?
Or on the flank of Mt. Hood?
