On June 19, we honor Juneteenth—a powerful reminder of Black liberation, resilience, and joy. At Hacienda, we celebrate by uplifting Black voices, businesses, and community power.

A year ago today, the Hacienda community suffered a terrible loss when a fire destroyed our beloved Portland Mercado. The cultural hub that brought a community together around food, joy and good times was silenced by the fire.

Today we remember what was lost in the fire: a community kitchen, businesses, stability. But the community stood firm and fired back. We quickly came together to support the hearts and livelihoods of the businesses that for years hosted our birthdays, first dates, old friends and good times. We raised $255,726 that were distributed among the affected businesses.

Today we also look forward to a new beginning. In the next few weeks, we will be announcing plans to bring the community back together again.

In 2025, the Portland Mercado is coming back.

Hacienda CDC's Portland Mercado was severely impacted by the fire that tore through our main building on January 3rd.

Thanks to an incredible swell of community support, immediate funds were raised to support the small businesses who make up the Portland Mercado community including our market hall vendors, food carts, and commissary kitchen users. Together, community members, businesses and foundations donated $255,726.31 to directly support these businesses.

A special thanks to the many donors who contributed to this fund and our partners at Meyer Memorial Trust, Oregon Community Foundation, Marie Lamfrom Charitable Trust, Banner Bank, OnPoint Community Credit Union, Trail Blazers, Comcast, Unidos US, Unitus Community Credit Union, NW Natural, Port of Portland, Travel Portland, Raza Development Fund, Atlas Pizza, Pizza Otto, the Foster-Powell Business Association, and so many more. The Portland Mercado Fire Relief Fund officially closed as of January 30th, 2024.

Our next step is to rebuild this beloved community space that was lost to the fire. The rebuilding process will require time, planning, and resources and we are committed to bringing the Portland Mercado back to what it once was, if not better.

We’re back!!! (Well, sort of)

The food inspector has given us the green light and food carts will officially open TOMORROW January 26th at 11AM for take out ONLY. Some food carts have already opened (Tita's Kitchen and Fernando's Alegria)
