Our Clinic Manager Daniel witnesses many sad moments, yet finds joy in his days at Kristina Health Centre — as evidenced by his glowing smile. We're sure fortunate to have this guy on our team, working on behalf of the people of Northern Uganda!

Just an incredible story out of KHC this week.

A mother named Lillian returned to the clinic — with twins, born in early June; she was there for their six-week immunization and her six-week follow-up visit. (Note: both infant immunizations and postnatal reviews were unheard of in this area before KHC appeared.)

Her twins had been born at 2.2 and 2.3 kgs (about 5 pounds). One was born with severe complications, including a hand prolapse, resulting in severe asphyxiation. Lilian told the team that she assumed her baby wouldn't make it. But the team resuscitated her — and today both babies are thriving at 4.2 kgs.

Lillian said, "It is my greatest pleasure to bring back this child alive for this review and for the team to hold my children."

We're looking forward to seeing our friend (and founder and leader) Julius in early October when he visits the U.S.!

We're planning his itinerary now, but you can expect stops in or near Seattle, Portland, and the Bay Area. Julius loves sharing his story with book clubs who read The Boy Who Runs — and of course with running groups (though he wants us to pass along that he's not as fast as he once was!).

The hours at KHC are long. The work is arduous and too-often thankless.

But that doesn't mean that our team there can't take moments to celebrate their wins — and even to be silly. We love this team!

There's joy in knowing that you have enough food to feed your family — and to sell some of your harvest at a local market to pay your children's school fees.

There's joy in not living with uncertainty because you have the knowledge to grow climate change-resistant crops.

And there's joy in working in a community of fellow farmers who face the same challenges yet live beyond subsistence — for the first time in your region's history.
