In the fastest-warming place on Earth, two human friends and their canine sidekick research how the world's smallest and fattest reindeer are thriving because of rising temperatures. But are they seeing a positive side-effect of climate change in the Arctic, or witnessing the end of innocence for Svalbard reindeer?

🏆️ REINDALEN, the winner of our 2026 Best Conservation Film Award, makes its regional debut in our April 30 program at the Hollywood Theatre, celebrating humanity's kinship with our more-than-human relatives.

On her Taipei balcony, Audrey delights in the flutter of tiny birds—fluffing their feathers, chattering, and sneaking tangerine bites. Their chirps sound like cheerful hellos and playful spats, inspiring her to invent a bird-language translator that unlocks their secret conversations.

Our regional premiere of the youth-made short by Audrey He-Qing Cheng , CHIRP TALKER, premiere before RUNA SIMI on April 28 at the Clinton Street Theater

FIUME O MORTE! won the 2025 European Film Awards Best Documentary honor in January, and now we're bringing it to the Hollywood Theatre (April 18) and Cinema 21 (April 15) for its regional premiere--with director Igor Besinovic in attendance! (Official Selection)

In 1919 the Italian poet, dandy and proto-fascist, Gabriele D’Annunzio, occupied the city of Fiume. More than a hundred years later, citizens of Fiume (today called Rijeka) retell and reinterpret the bizarre story about the 16-month occupation of their city in this brutally factual and defiantly punk cinematic journey--the most viewed Croatian documentary of all time!

🌲 Our regional premiere of Virpi Suutari's ONCE UPON A TIME IN A FOREST comes to Cinema 21 on April 14.

This immersive feature length documentary by the award-winning Finnish director is a hopeful ode to nature and her protectors. Set largely in the enchanting embrace of the forest, young people swim in crystalline lakes, reveling in the calm presence of the ancient trees. Their idyllic harmony is imperiled as the forest faces man-made extinction. Driven by her love for the forest, 22-year-old Ida becomes the leader of the new Forest Movement. She and her collaborators come face to face with industry giants and confront generational bias within their own families as they protect the forests and enjoy their youth.

🏆️ The regional premiere of our 2026 Black Merlin Visionary Film Award, TO THE WEST, IN ZAPATA (AL OESTE EN ZAPATA), directed by David Bim, comes to the Hollywood Theatre on April 9.

In the wilds of Cuba’s Zapata Swamp, a father hunts crocodiles by hand to feed his family while a pandemic and political discord rages beyond the tree line. This stark, black-and-white documentary is a visceral portrait of survival on the margins—where the power of nature meets that of a family's tenderness and will to live.

Across oceans and centuries, Indigenous ancestors remain trapped in museum vaults—stolen, studied, and silenced. OCEANBONE delves into the fight for repatriation, where history, poetry, and activism collide. As the waves carry their names once more, the film stands as both an elegy and a call to justice: the ancestors must go home.

The regional premiere of Lani Cupchoy's short film, OCEANBONE accompanies SEEDS on April 4 at the Hollywood Theatre, and is part of our NEW INDIGENOUS FILMS program on May 26 at Clinton Street Theater
