Portland Literacy Council The Portland Literacy Council (PLC) supports adult literacy programs, tutors, and students in the Portland Metropolitan area.

The Portland Literacy Council (PLC) is a 501(c)(3) charitablenonprofit organization founded in 1993. For 27 years, Portland Literacy Council has focused supporting volunteer tutors who serve in free or low-cost literacy programs for adult learners. Our activities include delivering volunteer tutor training programs around the metro area, hosting an annual literacy tutor conference, publishing the

LiteracyLINKS newsletter, and supporting adults wishing to complete their GEDs with scholarships to cover the cost of testing.

PLC is honored to have attended the inaugural graduation ceremony for this past weekend. We are so inspired by these graduates, many of whom were formerly incarcerated and took their GED exams to receive their high school diplomas. Also, a huge shout-out to Dr. Lauren Zavrel for starting this organization and all of the hard work and milestones achieved by Lauren and her team. PLC is so happy we could help support graduates by covering GED fees for many of them to take their GED exams.
