Our mission is to connect Maine and the world by engaging and educating people of all ages to become global citizens. Join our mailing list: https://tinyurl.com/WAC207 - The World Affairs Council of Maineโs origins date to 1962, when a group of Mainers hosted United Nations diplomats and correspondents. The Council was officially founded in 1977 to promote understanding of world events and issues,
diverse cultures, foreign policy, and international trade. With support from its members, the Councilโs programming engages individuals as well as the business and education communities and other organizations involved in Maine's expanding global presence. The concept of World Affairs Councils first evolved after World War I, out of the concern that Americans would choose a foreign policy of isolationism rather than engagement. After World War II, this vision emerged as a national organization of independent community councils with a national office in Washington, D.C.
