✌️World Humanitarian Day - 19 August
As a UN-recognized day, this day serves as a day to honor those who risked their lives to help those whose lives are at risk.
Those who give their lives to help others should never be targeted. Humanitarian workers continue to be injured, abducted, detained, and killed while carrying out their work to help humanity. Many of these workers serve their own communities, which they call their own.
Under international humanitarian law, civilians, including medical personnel and humanitarian workers, must be protected and respected, not targeted. Parties to armed conflict must allow and facilitate humanitarian relief for people in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
When humanitarian personnel are attacked, the shock waves aren't just felt directly; they are felt far beyond the individual. When humanitarian personnel are attacked, chains of relief are interrupted; food deliveries, healthcare, protections, and other life-saving services are significantly disrupted.
Today we celebrate World Humanitarian Day with the UN, and thank those who risk their lives for the better of others.
