This week — Thursday, September 3: We still need several volunteers to help out at the Portland Council PTA Clothing Center from 9:30am-1:30pm for our Capitol Hill assigned date.

Volunteers may be parents, grandparents, friends, or other community members.

Last year, the Clothing Center assisted approximately 1,400 PPS students - providing them with clothing and shoes so that they can feel good about attending school.

Reminder that our first kindergarten meetup is tomorrow (Monday 7/20)! If you have an incoming kindergarten student be sure to meet us at the Capitol Hill playground to meet fellow classmates and families!

Join us for summer playground meetups for incoming kinder families! Come play at the Capitol Hill playground, meet future classmates, and help your kindergartener feel comfortable and excited before school starts!

1. New to Capitol Hill? Be sure to sign up for PTA emails by creating an account here: https://www.capitolhillpta.org/create_account (This account will also be used to get tickets to PTA events, purchase spirit wear, and many other things!)

2. For ANYONE who wants to be able to volunteer in the school next year, please get a jump on completing your PPS background check this summer so you are ready to go by fall! Visit pps.net/volunteer for more info.

3. If you know of anyone who plans on sending their kinder to Capitol Hill next year, ask them if they've registered yet! Class sizes are determined by registration so it's really important for folks to get their kiddos registered sooner rather than later.

Loved seeing so many of you at the CHE community BBQ last night 🌭🍔🌽 Big thanks to the organizers, grillers, and everyone who brought a dish or helped bring the celebration to life!

We’ve filled many board spots (thank you!) but we’re still looking for 1-2 volunteer coordinators. This is a vital role that helps our event leads ensure they have the volunteers they need in place to make the fun CHE events we love happen.

Our PTA is at a critical point as we plan for the 2026–2027 school year. We still have several essential Board and event lead roles open, and these positions need to be filled soon in order for many of our programs, events, and school traditions to continue next year.

If you have been thinking about getting more involved, now is the time when your help would truly make a difference.
