The MAPIL and Maine Law communities want to express our sincere gratitude to all the donors, participants, and partners involved in this year's 36th Annual MAPIL Auction. We had a fantastic turnout and raised over $20,000 with all proceeds going directly to funding students who will be working in public interest internships during the summer to get practical, hands-on experience working across a broad range of public interest fields.

To open the Auction this year we also honored the first annual recipient of the MAPIL Excellence in Public Interest Award, Barbara Taylor. Since her graduation from Maine Law in 2004, she has worked tirelessly in the public interest field serving in the specialized niche of crimmigration. Her work has helped countless individuals all across the state.

At this point in time, Maine faces a severe lawyer shortage, especially in public interest fields. It is crucial that our school, the only law school in Maine, is able to support and encourage students who want to pursue public interest legal careers; your participation in this year's auction helped us make some of our students career goals come true! Reminder that our in-person live auction is this week! Head on down to 300 Fore Street and bid on some of our amazing items. This year’s MAPIL auction will be just a little bit different! We are excited to announce our first ever awardee of the MAPIL excellence in public interest award.

This award will be given annually to a Maine Law Alum who has dedicated a significant part of their career to public interest law and embodies the Maine Law ideal of justuce for all. Please come celebrate with us as we honor the incredible Barbara Taylor ‘04, who has worked extensively in the difficult area of “crimmigration” and has steadfastly defended indigent Mainers throughout her career. The Maine Association for Public Interest Law (MAPIL) is a student-run organization at Maine Law focused on encouraging students to pursue careers in public interest law. The proceeds from this event go towards the MAPIL Fellowship, which is awarded to students working in public interest law in positions that are otherwise unpaid.

We are excited to share with you our save the date for this year’s auction. Come join us at Maine Law for the 36th Annual MAPIL Auction! There will be a silent auction, raffle, live auction, and even an online auction. All proceeds go to MAPIL fellowships for Maine Law students. MAPIL fellowships enable current law students to pursue public interest opportunities that otherwise would not be compensated. See you then!

MAPIL invites you to our first fundraising event of the season at Brickyard Hollow on Tuesday February 13th between 4pm-9pm. A portion of all proceeds from all dine in and takeout orders during these times will go to Maine Association for Public Interest Law (MAPIL). See you there!

It’s that time of year again— Maine Association for Public Interest Law, a student organization at the University of Maine School of Law dedicated to supporting students who pursue careers in public interest law, is collecting donations for our annual auction.

We are collecting any and all donations—including money/cash/checks, handmade pottery, boat cruises, pub crawls, student/made items, and other experiences. Nothing is too big or too small. Please email [email protected] if you have a donation for us to help this amazing cause!

The purpose of the auction is to raise money for MAPIL fellowships that each summer fund between 5-10 students summer internships at public interest legal aid organizations that otherwise do not have the funds to pay for this vital work.

Maine’s indigent defense system is in a state of crisis and this year could not be a more important year to raise money for aspiring attorneys who want to do this noble work.
