Last month, the EQC adopted a new "1200-Z" industrial stormwater general permit, which governs stormwater discharges from industrial facilities across the state. This new permit is the result of a lawsuit from NEDC and Columbia Riverkeeper, and contains important new protections for Oregon's waters. Thanks to Earthrise Law Center and our partners at Columbia Riverkeeper for incredible advocacy throughout this process!

We have finalized our Clean Water Act lawsuit against Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals!

In addition to requiring major on-site retrofits that will, for the first time, treat all stormwater that flows off the company's North Portland site into Portland Harbor, we were also able to secure a $125,000 donation to Columbia Riverkeeper to support that organization's impressive work protecting the Columbia River.

Our industrial stormwater enforcement work gets results.

Please consider including NEDC in your end-of-year donation plans. We appreciate your support!

This afternoon Anna Tadio provided testimony to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in support of the formal rulemaking petition she and other Lewis & Clark Law School students drafted and submitted on behalf of NEDC and a coalition of other conservation organizations seeking formal Outstanding Resource Water protection for Waldo Lake.

Inspired by our petition, the state is also moving forward with designating Crater Lake as an Outstanding Resource Water as well.

Do you think Waldo Lake and Crater Lake deserve the highest level of water quality protection available under the law? If so, please take a moment to send an e-mail message to [email protected] stating your support for these designations.

Legal victory for Willamette River salmon and steelhead!

Thanks to our partners in this effort at Advocates for the West, WildEarth Guardians, and Native Fish Society.

Dams in the Willamette Valley are killing the majority of the young salmon and steelhead that try to pass on their way out to sea, and the Army Corps of Engineers violated the Endangered Species Act by refusing to take steps to reduce those deaths, a federal judge ruled Monday.
