Empowerteen Teen Holistic Wellness Program

Classes, workshops, retreats, socials and more events for teens.

Peer fun designed to enhance mental-physical-social-emotional health, while creating community, confidence and connection. Empowerteen is Social-Mental-Physical-Emotional wellness and prevention program for adolescents to prevent personal and societal conditions in a way that relieves stress and encourages fun! We give teenaged girls and boys skills to develop a powerful awareness of strength in s

elf, and tools to become happy, healthy, integrated and productive members of society. Topics covered in the program include building self-confidence, positive self-talk, effective communication, cultivating healthy relationships and conflict resolution skills, increasing body image, nutrition, disconnecting from technology to connect mind to body, developing mindfulness, empathy, living with gratitude and purpose, and rising above self-disserving labels. Lessons are cultivated using the latest understanding and research in biology, sociology, biochemistry, neurology, endocrinology, quantum physics, anatomy, physiology, psychology, and other behavioral sciences as tools to develop these skills. These tools are developed to help give teens the opportunity to build and create their future, connect to each other and their community with loving kindness, and prevent or manage many of the mental challenges adolescents face, such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, attention fatigue, inability to focus, fear of missing out, suicidal ideation, self-harm, addiction, toxic relationships, abuse, and the search for their sense of belonging. The Empowerteen program is led by Naturopathic Doctor, and former High School teacher and Teen Group Home counselor, Dr. Paula Pilcher, and has thus far taken on different avenues of exploring and practicing these skills including a once-a-week 8 week series, a semester-long daily High School class curriculum for health credit, week-long intensive summer retreats, an after school program, weekend workshops, socials, field-trips, guest-speaking at multiple venues, internships, charity events and volunteer opportunities.

📝 “When you flick your thumb upwards, scrolling to the next TikTok, the creator has three seconds to capture your attention. They speak fast and use eye-catching visuals, starting with a question you’ve always wondered about or a brief preview of what the rest of the short video will show you. This strategy is effective. It takes advantage of one of the keystones behind social media addiction—the average attention span is shrinking, so our brains are more attracted to bright, quick-moving content that ensures we don’t have to focus for more than half a minute.
Attention span refers to the amount of time we can focus on an activity before we get distracted. Even beyond high school, it’s hard to find anyone who’s exempt from the massively decreased attention spans, making any project that requires concentration seem much more daunting than it might have in the past. I believe that this is part of the reason that so many students have turned to ChatGPT for their essays and schoolwork. We’re losing our ability to think deeply, and thus turn to whatever resource can do the work for us… at the cost of increasing our stress levels.
How can we break free of the chains that social media has cast on us? You’ll often hear a solution—connecting with nature—but few bother to explain why that’s such an effective strategy. Here, we will peer into why a connection with our natural surroundings is so effective for clearing our minds of the deceptive algorithms and flashing colors of the online world.
