TOPIC
2017 Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge
An increase in fire activity due to climate change and legacies from past land management is expected to have major socio-ecological impacts in the Pacific Northwest. In the western regions, such as the Columbia River Gorge, wet forests have been (and are expected to continue being) relatively immune to past management but sensitive to climate change.
For this month’s forum, we will hear from Andrés Holz from Portland State University present on the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia Gorge and efforts being taken to understand some of the impacts of climate change on the region, including increases in debris flow risks, vegetation flammability, and socio-economic impacts.
