As Israel escalates attacks on Rafah, our hearts are with the people of Palestine. To students bravely protesting, we stand in solidarity. Your voices are powerful reminders to speak up and take action.

From 350.org: “Students are connecting the dots between their university trustees - often leaders in global finance and private equity - who are mining the planet, arming the Israeli military, and funding wars that result in millions of tons of carbon emissions each year.”

Oregon Treasurer Candidate Forum!

Tues, April 2, 6:30PM @ First Unitarian Church of Portland (1011 SW 12th Ave, Portland)

The Oregon State Treasurer plays a critical role in state investments, including the $94 billion pension fund — the 12th largest in the country. In February, State Treasurer Tobias Read revealed his signature net-zero plan to decarbonize the state’s portfolio by 2050; in March, the Oregon legislature passed the COAL Act. How the Treasury’s net-zero plan and the COAL Act are implemented will depend on the next Treasurer’s leadership.

At the April 2 forum, Oregon Treasurer candidates will answer questions around climate-safe investing and rising private equity concerns, as well as key issues about transparency, management style, and governance. Moderated by the Oregon Capital Chronicle’s Alex Baumhardt, the forum is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6pm. All who have filed as candidates for Oregon State Treasurer have been invited to participate. Following the forum, there will also be a reception to celebrate two BIG EVENTS that have happened in just the past month – winning the COAL Act and the release of the Treasurer’s Net-Zero Plan!

For several years, 350PDX has enjoyed access to a big space at the back of the Rebuilding Center at 3639 N Mississippi Ave. And we love the space! The Arts Team has amazing art builds in it, we host our monthly Action Nights and quarterly Shade Equity Socials there, and we host trainings there such as our Organizing 101 in January. We also support our community allies like Sunrise PDX by giving them access to the space to hold meetings and events there.

We don't want to lose this crucial space that has become a hub for the 350PDX and larger climate justice community. However, the future of the space is at a crossroads. We could either be securing the space as a long-lasting 350PDX community resource, or we could lose access to it altogether.

We need your help right now to make sure we keep our event space available into the future. Can you chip in a one-time donation today?

Join us tomorrow for a free matinee showing of Burned: Are Trees the New Coal? from 2-4PM at the Kelso Theater Pub in Kelso (Washington). No need to reserve tickets beforehand, the event is free — just show up! Hope to see you there.

✨ We will also be celebrating a WIN in the campaign to Stop Drax from building a biomass plant in Longview, WA: ✨

The SW Washington Clean Air Agency (SWWCAA) just withdrew Drax’s draft air pollution permit and postponed the public hearing. Many of you have joined us in asking the SWWCAA to deny this permit, so thank you for taking action! This only happened because we made our voices heard.

However, this fight is far from over. We fully expect the SWWCAA will issue a new draft permit, triggering another public comment period, and we will be ready when it comes. We will keep calling on the SWCAA to give a high level of scrutiny to Drax’s application for an air pollution permit, and to ultimately deny their application.

🌲🌲 We're excited to announce a BIG win: the Oregon Board of Forestry adopted the Habitat Conservation Plan for Western Oregon State Forests! 🌲🌲

We need healthy forests now more than ever — to provide clean water for local communities, habitat for threatened species, and a line of defense against the climate crisis — and passing the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) is a critical step in that direction.

Once implemented, the HCP will protect essential habitat for 17 imperiled species of salmon and wildlife on 640,000 acres of Oregon state forests by establishing buffers protecting forests from clearcutting, and creating Habitat Conservation Areas for species dependent on mature forests, like the marbled murrelet, coastal marten, and spotted owl.

Over the past few years, hundreds of Oregonians have called on the Board of Forestry to pass a robust HCP. Together, we've sent emails, signed petitions, submitted testimony, and more. Thank you for being part of this work!

🚨CALL TO ACTION 🚨

Demand Multnomah County Commissioners pass a Ceasefire Resolution!

On February 1st the people of Multnomah County showed up in force to the county commissioners meeting to rally and give public testimony expressing support for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Commissioner Lori Stegmann responded by announcing that she will be championing a ceasefire resolution later in February.

We want to thank Commissioner Stegmann for demonstrating the moral courage to introduce a ceasefire resolution, and we need to show her our support! Let’s show the other commissioners the importance of expeditiously passing a ceasefire resolution that aligns with the demands Palestinian leaders have been reiterating for months. The board needs to hear from all their constituents how important this resolution is for the community in Multnomah County. So we need your help!

👋 TAKE ACTION!

1. Email Multnomah County Commissioners voicing your support for ceasefire and demanding that they pass a comprehensive ceasefire resolution ➡️ https://mailxto.com/thankyou

2. Email Lori Stegmann in support of her commitment to introduce a ceasefire resolution ➡️https://mailxto.com/multnomahceasefire
