Peaks Island Children's Workshop The Peaks Island Children’s Workshop is a licensed childcare center and 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Maine.

Peaks Island Children’s Workshop (PICW) is a private, non-profit agency based on Peaks Island, Maine. The Workshop is family and community oriented and stresses involvement of both groups in the life of the center. Along with our Infant/Toddler and Preschool programs, the Workshop provides resource and referral to mainland resources; and works cooperatively with other island services organizations

. The Workshop’s basic goal is support for the positive growth and development of young children and their families. It is the philosophy of the Workshop that children grow and learn as they actually experience events in their environment and become more aware of their own abilities to create, change, and evaluate. Children learn by doing and this “hands on” approach is stressed in all of our programs. The staff creates an environment rich in childhood experiences based on children’s developmental needs and emphasis is placed on each child’s ability to make independent choices and to form relationships in work and play.
