Guests are encouraged to bring in any fresh mushrooms they have recently found and our team of volunteer pros will help you ID what you found. It’s a great way to mix and mingle with members and learn a lot about mushrooms!
Our Fall Show is NOT TO BE MISSED! It is a spectacular event where you can see beautifully displayed specimens from around the region and talk to mushroom experts. There will be vendors, books for sale, mushroom cooking samples, speakers and more! (The OMS Fall Mushroom Show is open to the public.)

7:00 OMS Society Business: Announcements, Introductions, or Short Presentations

7:15 pm Presentation:

Speaker Joe Cohen
Boletes and Unboletes.

Take a fast-paced tour through the fascinating world of Pacific Northwest boletes and their look-alikes. We’ll meet some of the region’s common and distinctive species, explore the evolutionary story behind these mushrooms, and uncover where they come from and why they live where they do. Along the way, we’ll share some practical hints for recognizing boletes in the field—and a few surprises about what makes a bolete a bolete. Whether you’re a seasoned mushroom enthusiast or simply curious about the fungi beneath our feet, come prepared to see the Pacific Northwest forest in a whole new way!

Welcome Joe Cohen this month. Joe quietly works behind the scenes and has a passion for learning about fungi that led him to become a member of OMS. He’s a former OMS President and Board Member. He has been a Field Trip Leader and Identifier and regular presenter at OMS Meetings on a wide range of topics
