7:15 pm Presentation:
Speaker: Rebecca “Bo” Macgill
This presentation will cover my research on optimizing pigment production from three species of the colorful spalting fungus Scytalidium, and details my research goals, methods, motivations, and major results. Colorants are a hugely important but hugely overlooked part of everyday life, and my research aims to illuminate a path toward sustainable alternatives to synthetic colorants. Spalting pigments have a rich history spanning over 500 years that I am excited to share through a look into current research on
their modern applications. My talk will blend topics ranging from biology to art and optoelectronics suited for everyone from mycology novices to experienced professionals.
