We're so grateful for our energetic Brunswick team, who organized a yummy bake sale and prize drawing to support our "Rise MaineHealth" team as they gear up for the September 12 Out of the Darkness Walk. It's inspiring to see everyone come together for such an important cause promoting su***de awareness. Thank you to our amazing team and the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention- Maine Chapter for providing this opportunity. 🥰

On September 26 our "MaineHealth Beacon of Hope" team will participate in the Portland walk. We have the best care team! If this cause is as meaningful to you as it is to us, find a walk near you and join us! https://afspwalks.donordrive.com/pages/2497?eventID=11924

We are so thrilled about this partnership!

Patients who arrive at the MHMMC Portland Emergency Department (ED) with acute behavioral health needs will soon have access to an emergency space that is more conducive to healing.

Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on our new Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) unit, a partnership with MaineHealth Behavioral Health. This space is designed to help treat and stabilize patients with acute behavioral health needs, and will free up beds in the ED for patients needing care for acute physical ailments.

We hope it will allow all of our ED patients in Portland to receive the care they need in a more timely manner and in an appropriate environment.

More than 50 years after serving aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, Facilities Manager Fred Price had the opportunity to return to the historic tall ship during its Sail-250 visit to Portland. Joined by John Hume, Director of Engineering -- who also serves as the District Commodore for the First District Northern Region of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary -- Fred reconnected with an important chapter of his life. He had an amazing day sharing stories from his time aboard Eagle with today's crew and cadets.

Just days before he retired from MaineHealth, the visit served as a meaningful full-circle moment. Congratulations, Fred, and thank you for your close to three decades of service. Wishing you fair winds in your retirement! U.S. Coast Guard

We're thrilled to share some wonderful news! After a successful 13-week pilot, our partnership with the University of New England College of Dental Medicine has expanded the Bright Smiles and Healthy Futures program, bringing this innovative approach to even more patients. This initiative is making it easier for people living with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders to feel comfortable and confident during dental visits. By using a gentle, step-by-step approach in a welcoming dental suite, participants have made amazing progress—many now successfully complete traditional dental appointments! Plus, future dentists are getting hands-on experience in providing caring, patient-centered support. Together, we're making dental care more accessible and welcoming for everyone! Learn more:

July is Disability Pride Month. Disability Pride Month was created to celebrate and accept each person's uniqueness and to recognize the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990. It is also intended to bring awareness to and confront ableism, which is discrimination against people with physical or mental disabilities.

According to the CDC, more than 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have some type of disability. People with disabilities are the largest minority group in the U.S. You can participate in Disability Pride Month by sharing your story or amplifying others’ voices, attending an event or being an advocate for equitable opportunities.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Fourth of July!

As you celebrate, remember that fireworks can be distressing for some, including veterans, people living with PTSD, young children, pets and anyone who is sensitive to loud noises.

If fireworks are difficult for you, consider:
🎆 Using headphones or calming music.
🎆 Spending time indoors during peak fireworks hours.
🎆 Letting family and friends know what helps you feel comfortable.
🎆 Having a plan if you need a quiet space.

However you choose to spend the holiday, we hope you find moments of peace, connection and well-being.
