The future of technology is exciting, but how do we make sure every young person has the opportunity to be part of it?

Our CEO, Colleen Cooper, is joining the conversation at Maine Tech Week!

As the first woman to lead Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine in our 115-year history, Colleen brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, business, youth development, and community engagement.

She believes that talent and potential exist everywhere, but access to opportunity doesn't always follow. As AI continues to reshape education and the workforce, it's more important than ever to ensure young people have the experiences, skills, and confidence to thrive in an evolving world.

We're excited to see Colleen bring the youth development perspective to this important conversation!

What was once a storage closet at our Portland Clubhouse is now something much more!

Through a longstanding partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine and Hannaford Supermarkets, and with the help of local contractors who generously donated their time and expertise, the space was transformed into a state-of-the-art food pantry for Club kids and their families.

The pantry helps expand access to food for the nearly 1,500 young people we serve and their families, with the ability to access this resource both during and outside of regular Club hours.

More than $30,000 in materials and labor were donated to make the transformation possible, but the impact of this space will extend far beyond its walls.

Partnerships like this are about showing up for young people, strengthening families and investing in the communities we serve. We're incredibly grateful for Hannaford's continued commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine and for everyone who helped bring this space to life. šŸ’™

Every child deserves the chance to discover what they love. Through the arts, Club kids have opportunities to explore their creativity, express themselves and build confidence. Experiences that arenā€™t always accessible outside of the Club.

And theyā€™ve been busy creating! This year, 373 pieces were submitted to our Annual Art Show. šŸŽØ

Itā€™s just one of the ways weā€™re creating opportunities for kids to learn, grow and discover what inspires them.

We've been selected as one of 20 local nonprofits in the running for 2026 Better Neighbor Fund Grant!

Eight organizations will receive a share of $33,000 in grant funding, and your votes help decide who receives it.

Nludi has spent much of his childhood growing up at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. Along the way, heā€™s built relationships, stepped into leadership roles, and was named 2026 Maineā€™s State Youth of the Year.

Now, as he looks beyond high school, heā€™s taking everything heā€™s learned with him into whatever comes next.

Stories like Nludiā€™s are why Youth Leadership is one of the six areas at the heart of our work. Last year alone, almost 100 young people ages 12ā€“18 participated in one-on-one mentorship at BGCSM, building confidence, finding their voices, and having people alongside them as they figure out their next steps.
